A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7
In our assembly this week we reflected on the first half term in Year 7. The start of secondary school has been a busy time with CATs tests, visits to Thames Young Mariners, lots of extracurricular clubs and activities, the Drop Down Day visit to Kingston and Pink Day to end the half term. Our Year 7 students have certainly earned their break! In the assembly we also looked at the wide range of people that our students can speak to if they have any worries and the confidential email address listen@waldegravesch.org was introduced to the students. This is where students can report any concerns in confidence. It has been lovely to see so many Year 7s wearing pink today as they participated in a fundraising non uniform day to show support for Breast Cancer awareness. If you would like to join us in supporting this cause we have set up a JustGiving page where donations of any amount are welcome, thank you. Congratulations to Artemis M-P in 7EST who has gained the most house points in Year 7 this half term. Well done also to Isobel F, Violet W-B, Zara H, Nancy K, Mara H, Shrivarshini B, Eva C, Pip S and Rose F who were in the top ten in the Year 7 housepoint chart. News of events, sports fixtures and clubs is shared with students on your child’s form group Google Classroom. Please encourage your child to check this regularly. Please can I ask parents and carers to support the school in ensuring that students return to school in the correct school uniform. Students will need to bring books for Week B Wednesday on the first day back. I wish everybody a restful half term break and look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday 1 November.

Meet Nicola Adams:
Trailblazer Nicola made history as the first woman to win the Olympic gold medal for boxing. She was also the first openly LGBT boxer to win a medal. Up until 2012, the Olympics didn’t allow women to compete in boxing, so Nicola was fighting stereotypes to earn her place in the ring. She went on to win the gold in London 2012 and Rio in 2016. Always a trailblazer, Nicola didn’t stop making history when she stopped boxing. She took part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2020, breaking boundaries as the first same-sex couple to dance on the show. Biographical documentary ‘Lioness: The Nicola Adams Story’ examines Nicola’s life spent fighting fierce competitors, prejudice and adversity and her determination to never give up.
