What evidence o f conversion was wrought by the preached W ord? Acts 19:18-20. What signs were promised to them which believe? Mark. 16:17, 18. Why do we see So few evidences o f real conviction and conversion o f sinners? Jas. 1 : 22 '; 4 :3 ; Gal. 1:6-9. Why could not Herod'find Peter? Psa. 37:32, 33. Where could he have found the facts about Peter? Acts 2:42, 46 ; 4:32. May it have been the same angel that led Peter to safety, which smote Herod to death ? Acts 12:23. PRACTICAL POINTS (1) If angels be for us, need we care if council and soldiers be against us? (2) King Herod removed James’ head, but King Jesus rewarded him. (3) Ten words tell the tale o f the taking away o f a chosen apostle. (4) When Peter went to prison, the church went to prayer. (5) Herod had a surprise for the people, but God had a surprise for Herod. ( 6 ) Prayer for the prisoner was turned into praise for his presence. (7) When Peter reached the street, he was expected to use his- senses. ( 8 ) Sometimes answer to prayer seems too good to be true. . (9) Peter gave glory, not to the angel servant, but to his Saviour Lord. (10) An angel met Peter and delivered him to life; an angel smote Herod and delivered him to death.

Contrast this deliverance with that of Paul in Acts 16:26. Are angels God’s ministering messen­ gers? Psa. 104:4, Was it strange that Peter did not know whether it was a dream or reality? 2 Cor. 12:1-3. Is anything too hard for God? Dan. 3 :25-28; 6:22. What comforting assurance have the saints in seasons o f trial ? 2 Cor. 1 : 8 , 9, 10; 2 Peter 2 :9. What can we say we know? 1 John 3:14; 2 Cor. 5:1; 1 John 3:2. (3 ) Prayer and Doubt, vs. 12-17. Why did the church resort to prayer? 'Prov. 15:29; Psa. 109:4. Are the eyes and ears o f God open to ■see and hear His children? Isa. 38:5; 1 Peter 3 :12. ■Does God sometimes answer before the call is made ? Isa. 65:24. Was the answer so sudden, and in such an unlooked for way, that doubt prevailed? Luke 24:11, 37, 38. What is Christ’s rebuke to doubt? Matt. 8:26; 14:31. What should be the testimony o f those whom God has delivered? Psa. 66:16; 102 : 20 , 21 . Does the Lord desire that all should know o f his wonderful deliverance? Mark '5:19. May there be many surprises for God’s people who prevail in prayer? Matt. 18:19; John 14:13. (4 ) Perplexity and Discipline, vs. 18-19. When God works through His disciples are people stirred ? Acts 19:25, 26, 27.
