BOOK OF THE MONTH
The kite runner is a novel about two young boys growing up in Afghanistan during the 70s and 80s, one excessively wealthy and desperate to please his father, the other, the son of his father’s servant with a religious standing that leads to him being further oppressed form an unlikely friendship that is torn apart after a life changing incident. Their personal lives then take them in very different directions due to the political turmoil of the country but the impact their friendship left on eachother lasts a life- time. It explores how complex relationships are and how peoples connections and their life experiences shape who they are. Personally, I loved following how the characters changed and developed throughout the book and how even through war, abuse and prejudice, love prevailed. ~ Recommended by Marina M-B in Year 11
