Bible Institute Happenings Particularly of Interest to Friends and Students

They are hoping and praying to be able to open a station at Sao Joao among the Parecis and Iranche In­ dians. — o— Miss Gwendolyne Colling, a former Evening School Student, is the very capable and efficient secretary to Dr. Massie, pastor of Tremont Temple Baptist Church, Boston. She has en­ joyed her work and no doubt has been largely used in this service. Irma Dudrow, ’ 26, Martha Walters, ’25, and Marguerite Naughton, ’ 26, sailed from Vancouver, September 9th, for work in China with the China In­ land Mission. Harold Casto, ’26, sailed for the same field September 1st.. We wish these Workers Godspeed. After being graduated from Ashland College, Ashland, Ohio, Homer A. Kent, Bible Institute Class of 1918, was called to the pastorate of the First Brethren Church, Washington, D. C. Mr. and Mrs. Kent now have in their home, Master Homer Kent, Jr., who was born on Friday, August 13th. Rev. Albert E. Kelly, for the last five years pastor of the Ingleside Com­ munity Church, (United Presbyter­ ian affiliation), San Francisco, has been called to the office of Student Secretary on the Faculty. He assumed his duties July 1st, and has been busily engaged in caring for the many details of his office. Laura Johnson, ’ 24, sailed from Vancouver, August 19th, for Nanking, China. She will teach music in the Bible Training Institute of that city. Her many friends will remember that she was providentially detained in America at this time last year. Her mother’s death and consequent res­ ponsibilities delayed the fulfillment o f her plan. C. Logan Landrum, ’ 24, has been preaching this summer at the Presby­ terian Church of Klbler, Virginia. He closed on August 15th an evangelistic campaign in this church, with good results. Recent word from him indi­ cates that he was to spend some days at the Montreat, North Carolina, Bible Conference. He expected to have the- privilege of meeting and hearing Dr. Torrey at this time. o - H. E. Widmer, *23, writes from Al­ bany, Oregon, that he has been in a mission there for a year, but that the way -has opened for him to make a tour which will enable him to visit England, France, Germany, Switzer-

Ford, ’ 24, to Miss Mynna Turkington, September 7th, 1926, in the Lincoln Avenue P resby terian Church, Pasadena. Mr. Lewis Janies Gall to Miss Edna Cynthia Alger, July 21st, at Los An­ geles, California. Mrs. Gall was a stu­ dent of B. I. In 1918, and was the first student of the Institute to go to the foreign field. * Richard Floyd Pierson, to Miss Amy Adeline Winsor, July 30th, 1926, at Arna, Uganda, Africa. Mr. Pierson was a student at the Institute 1916-17. They will be at home after the first of September, Africa Inland Mission, Belgian Congo, Africa. The following marriages have taken place in South America among work­ ers of the Inland South America Mis­ sion Union: Ernest Diem, ’21, to Miss Eva Mar- ven. W illiam Hunrichs, *22, to Miss Hazel Long, ’ 23. William Scherer, '23, to Miss Elva M. Burnham, ’ 23. Our very best wishes are extended to these splendid young people as they witness for Christ and are UBed of Him. Births Prospective Students: M artin L. Alumni News Virden Kirby, ’ 25, is entering the Brethren College at Ashland, Ohio. Margaret Elliott, ’ 26, is attending Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois. Olga Noreen, ’ 26, will take nurse’s training at Turlock, California. Miss Marie Lichti, '26, left August 23rd, for Newton, Kansas, where she is entering Bethel Hospital for nurse’s training. Alan S. Miss Gladys Correll, '24, of Bell­ flower, California, left recently for Northern Montana, where she will be engaged in missionary work among the Indians. Harold Young and wife (nee Ruth Pinkerton), recent students, sailed August 24th, 1926, on the President Garfield, for the mission fields of Bur­ ma, to work under the Baptist Foreign Mission Board. Martha Walters, ’ 25, has spent the past year In the Medical Course of the National Bible Institute, New York City. This further preparation will enable her to do better work in the mission field of China. Ivan Peterson, ’ 24, and Mrs. Peter­ son, who are engaged in American Sunday School Union work, with head­ quarters in Seattle, spent a few hours recently at the Bible Institute renew­ ing old acquaintanceships. Mr. and Mrs. Will Hunrichs are at Juruena, Matto Grosso, Brazil, work­ ing among the Nhambiquara Indians.
