then know what "perdition" or "destruc­ tion'' means. In Rev. 19 :20 we have a very explicit statement of where the "beast goeth." We are here told that "the beast was taken and with him the false prophet that wrought the signs in his sight, where­ with be deceived them that bad received the mark of the beast and them that worshipped his image; they two were cast alive into the lake of. fire that burneth with brimstone." But what becomes of the beast in that lake of fire T Is he annihilated T Does he lose conscious existence T This question is an­ swered in the 10th verse of the following chapter (Rev. 20 :10): "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of :fire and brimstone, where are also the beast and the false prophet." Let us remember that this is after the thousand years and we see that the beast and the false prophet are still there. They have not been consumed in the sense of ceasing to be in the thousand years that have elapsed since they were put there, and we are furthermore told in the remainder of the verse, ''They shall be tormented day and night forever and ever." The words translated ''they shall be tormented'' in this passage can only refer to conscious torment,
