And this remarkable Document provides the only solution to these intriguing mysteries. In its pages we dis cover illumination so startling and information so arrest ing that our imaginations are staggered. There are seven great outstand

[The author, a physician and surgeon, is a Fellow of. the Royal College o f Surgeons, Edinburgh, Scotland. For years he has been one o f the leading surgeons o f the Pacific Coast. In 1925, at the urgent solicitation o f many prominent fundamentalist leaders, he relinquished his large practice to give a year to lecture work and Bible teaching. So many and insistent have been the demands for his services, that he has felt called of God to continue>at least for

The aim o f this movement is to destroy civilization based on Chris tian principles, and to establish in its place an atheistic, rationalistic so ciety which leads straight to ma terialism. The inner nature o f this struggle is spiritual. It is a conflict between rationalism and Christianity, be tween the rights of God and the claims o f man. Behind the struggle stands the sinister figure o f Satan— God’s archenemy. Simply to state these proposi tions is to find ourselves in the midst o f profound and fascinating mys tery. There is a God. 2. God is Creator o f all things. 3. God has spoken. 4. God came to earth. 5. God has redeemed mankind. 6. God is here. 7. God is coming to earth again. T here I s a G od The first and most tremendous fact in the universe is God—a Su preme Being, a definite, distinct Per sonality, eternal, omnipotent, omnis cient, holy, just, the Controller o f all things animate and inanimate. All logical thinking is based on this fact. It is doubtless true that we might discover God without God’s Book, since “ the invisible things of him from the creation o f the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse” (Rom. 1 :20 ). But it is certain that, apart from the rev elation o f Scripture, nothing could be known of the astounding invisible warfare in which God is engaged, nor the part which man plays in it. When Thou, by love’s compelling, Wast moved to put away Thy Godhead’s power and glory And condescend to take (W a s e’ er so sweet a story!) Man’s semblance fo r man’s sake. Lord, what has been Thy guerdon? Men’s hearts Thy throne to be? Thy praises made the burden Of grateful minstrelsy? W e bow in shame before Thee! . For Truth must answer, “ N o !” Yet are there who adore Thee A few ! Lord, Thou dost know! Beyond earth’s power to measure, To them Thy charms appear. Above earth’s costliest treasure Thou art supremely dear. All that the wide world offers Is dross compared with Thee! The sum o f earthly coffers A s foam upon the sea. It appears as if there is some powerful and malig nant personality, working under cover, but with great success, to plunge civiliza tion into a veritable abyss o f despair. It is a fact that all previous civilizations have gone down to destruc tion ; ours seems headed in the same direction.

numerable host of angelic creatures, the chief o f these being Satan. He was the most majestic product o f God’s cre ative power and was given the supreme position in the heavenly realm. He was perfect, from the very moment o f creation, until the consuming sin o f pride accomplished his downfall (Ezek. 28:15). Inordinate pride in his beauty and power drove him to commit the highest possible treason. He instigated a revolt in heaven against God. Excitement in heaven during those thrilling days of intrigue and battle must have been intense. The climax was reached when Satan was defeated, and fell, as Jesus related, “as lightning from heaven,” in sud den and precipitate overthrow. It is futile to inquire why immediate extinction was not

Why should failure invariably mark the termination of human government? Why should sin ever be victor over righteousness? Why should Wrong be seated on the throne and Right dragged in the dust? Why should man disobey God so easily and serve Him so hardly ? Why should loy alty to God so often bring suffering and trial ? The human mind, baffled and perturbed by many such questions, seeks a satisfactory answer. There is a Book
