Gifts for the Little Jesus M a t t h e w 2 :1 -1 2 Memory Verse: “And when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts” (Matt. 2:11). Approach: Christmas time is just past, the time when we celebrate the birthday of the Christ Child. At that time, we give gifts were brought to Him. Away in a country east o f Bethlehem of Judaea, there lived some wise men. These men studied the stars and learned a great many things from them. Now at the time that Jesus was born, a special star shone in the sky. The wise men watched this star. They studied it, and after a while they knew that if they followed it, they would find the place where Jesus, the Babe who was to be King of the Jews, had been born. Across the deserts and over the moun tains they came. Many weary miles they traveled before they reached Bethlehem, the birthplace of the King. At last the star stopped over the place where the young Child lay. And the Bible says that the wise men “rejoiced with exceeding great joy,” for at last they had found the King whom they had come to worship. They entered the room and knelt and worshiped Him. They opened the treasures which they had brought and gave them to Him—gold, frankincense, and myrrh—the best that they had, they brought to Him. Today, what gifts can we bring to Jesus?
