and pure in heart. They were to be peace makers. They were not to be afraid of being persecuted, but were to “rejoice and be exceeding glad,” remembering that their reward was in heaven. Many of the people would not have liked to have Jesus tell them this. They would rather He had said, “Be brave, strong fighters; I am come to help you conquer your enemies.” They did not want to.be humble and meek, but Jesus said “Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.” Golden Text Illustration Ludwig Richter, the German painter, used to relate with considerable emotion that his mother repeatedly told him, when ever he met temptation, he should repeat the beatitudes. But the words she was wont to add were: “ ‘Blessed are the pure in heart,’ you should repeat seven times.” “How often,” says Richter in his auto biography, “have I felt the power o f these holy words, especially when I remembered that in my distant home mother was, per haps in the hour of my temptation, raising her voice in intercession for her son.” This same man wrote in the space under his portrait the words o f Goethe: “ Great thoughts and a pure heart, these we should ask of God.”— S elected . Object Lesson T h e R ed - H eaded T w in s Objects : Two matches with red tips, a strong magnet covered with white paper, a jewel box, a piece of white silk, and a piece of black cloth. (The arch from an old automobile magneto, which may be se cured at a wrecking yard, is very satisfac tory for a magnet.) Lesson : Are there any twins here this morning? You may not see any just now, but there are some here, for I have them in my pocket. Here they are, Tim and Tom Match. They are both red headed, and they look just alike. They are not alike, however. (Before beginning to speak, push a needle out o f sight in one o f the matches.) Christ, speaking o f the time when He should return, said, “ There shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken and the other left.” We shall let this magnet represent Christ when He returns. Tim Match goes to meet the magnet. There is something on the inside o f this match that loves the magnet. This match repre sents those who have accepted Christ as Saviour. Tom Match is not attracted by the magnet at all. Many will be like him in that day when Christ comes. Those who have not accepted Him will not be caught up to meet Him. We will light these matches and let the flame go out, to represent those who die before Christ returns. We will place these dead matches in this little box which looks like a casket. When Christ returns, the graves of the Christians are to open and their bodies are to come out and be caught up to meet Christ. Notice that the match which jumped to meet the magnet before, comes out of the grave now. The other one does not move. Here is a little white robe which repre sents the robes the Christians are to wear in heaven. We will put it on Tim Match. We will wrap Tom Match in this black cloth, to represent all those who do not accept Christ and who are to go away into outer darkness forever. Now is the time when every one should accept Christ and be ready to meet Him when He comes.
