MATT’S BOOK OF THE MONTH ‘Comes Again’ By Howard Stern

Howard Stern is an American radio and television personality, comedian, and author. He is primarily known for his radio show, “The Howard Stern Show,” which was nationally syndicated on radio stations from 1986 to 2005. Now, he broadcasts his show on Sirius XM. I started listening to Howard Stern when I was in college. I grew up in rural Illinois, and Stern’s show was not syndicated in our area at that time.

Stern has interviewed thousands of guests over the years from rock stars to rappers, comedians, actors and even politicians. They talk about a wide range of topics, and Stern has been asked which interviews are his favorite on several occasions. “Comes Again” answers this question with a series of interviews and conversations he’s had with his guests. Although this book shows the evolution of Stern and his interviewing capabilities, it also shows the evolution of pop culture over the past quarter century. Many people think of Stern as only a shock jock getting his staff to do outrageous stuff for “great radio.” What many people don’t realize is that when Stern went to Sirius Satellite Radio, he actually toned down his wackiness and started doing long-form interviews with guests. You can see the magic he has in getting celebrities to open up as much as possible. I especially enjoyed the interviews with comedians as I find that lifestyle interesting. But, perhaps the most intriguing is the series of interviews with former President Donald Trump before he became president in 2016. Just reading these interviews, no one would have expected he would have been the leader of the free world. Even if you are not a Stern fan, “Comes Again” is a fascinating, easy read that I definitely recommend. You will likely change your mind on who you think Stern is. Don’t get me wrong, he is still brash, obnoxious, and outrageous, but he truly is a master of his craft.

It wasn’t until the late ‘90s that I got a chance to hear the incredible Howard Stern and

his cast of characters. I also got a catchup lesson in “Sternology” when I saw his movie “Private Parts,” based on his bestselling book. Howard went on to write other books, including his latest, “Comes Again,” which is a collection of some of his favorite interviews with infamous guests.
