Environment Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Environment have issued a joint Smog Advisory for the Eastern On- tario region. Smoke and haze originating from forest fires over Quebec have drifted over Eastern Ontario, causing the air quality index to ex- ceed the “poor quality” threshold of 50 due to fine particulate matter. While the smog advisory is in effect, strenuous outdoor activities are not rec- ommended as they may cause respiratory symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath. People most at risk of experiencing respiratory problems include: children up to the age of 18, people who work or ex- ercise outdoors, pregnant women, people with allergies, seniors, people with heart Homeowners and merchants in several Prescott County communities should pre- pare in advance for temporary power out- age over the July 7 weekend. Ontario Hydro’s Van leek Hill operations centre has scheduled a four-hour power shutdown on Sunday, July 7, from 8 a.m. to noon. The power outage will affect 835 custom- ers in Alfred-Plantagenet Township, Cham- plain Township, and The Nation municipal- ity. Hydro one will do an advance phone call notice to all households affected before the shutdown takes place.
