One who indwells the believer by His Holy Spirit, satisfies His own people. The white stone may symbolize the precious stones in the breastplate of the high priest. We, too, are as those stones, borne in the heart of Christ and on His shoulders, upheld by His love and power. As the old Scotsman said, “It’s better felt than telt.” Nobody knows what this white stone will fully mean to the believer. Q . Medford, Oregon — “Although Christ knew no sin, I understand that it was because of sin that He was forsaken by the Father on the cross. Is this true?” A. It was because of our sins tljpt the Lord Jesus Christ was forsaken on the cross.' He died as an atonement and substitute, for us. This is the forensic view, revealing how His death met the legal requirements of an infinitely holy God. We can never know the full rea son why it was necessary for the Lord to go to Calvary’s cross. All we know is that if there had been an easier way to pay the penalty for sin surely the Lord Jesus Christ and the Father would have taken that course. All that is nec essary for us to do, however, is to appropriate His death on the cross as our very own. Q . Redding, California — “What is the significance of the veil of the temple being rent? (Mark 15:38). Where is the holy of holies?” A. The significance of these questions is vast. This is essentially the message of the epistle' to the Hebrews. The veil was used to emphasize the holiness of God. He had to keep Himself separate from all sin and all evil, even among His chosen people Israel. So He Him self put His dwelling place not in the outer court, not in the holy place, but in the holiest of all. The high priest would have been smitten dead if he had tried to go into that compartment beyond the veil. He could enter just once a year by God’s appointment and with a blood atonement. When Christ was crucified on the cross, He died that all sin might be put away. He was

The veil was rent so that we might have an immediate entrance into the presence of God through His Son. The holy of holies is not on earth. It always has been in heaven. The one on earth was just a figure after the original. It is now and always has been in the third heaven in the very pres ence of God. Q . Wasco, California — “In Hebrews 9:27 it tells us, ‘It. is appointed unto men once to die, but after• this the judgment.’ Wouldn’t this prove that Lazarus was resurrected in a glorified body?” A, No, it does not. It simply proves that when the Lord wants to intervene in laws relating to mankind, He can do so if He chooses. Elijah didn’t die; he was caught up in a chariot of fire. Enoch didn’t die; he walked with God, and was not, for God took him. The rule is that it is appointed unto men once to die. There are these glorious exceptions to the rule, however, be cause God may bring in exceptions any time He desires. 23
