RECOGNIZING OUR COMMUNITY HEROES

by Lori M. Burke, Executive Director

For five years, MADD Southwest Florida has been recognizing law enforcement, first responders, state attorneys, teachers, nonprofit professionals, business professionals, youth and more for their part in ensuring that our roads are safe and sober. Since it's inception, the recognition program has recognized over 750 people for going above and beyond in their jobs, volunteer work and daily life to make our community a safe place.

However, most unique is the opportunity the event gives to

victims and survivors of drunk and drugged driving. Turning their pain and loss into purpose gives them a tangible way to ensure that no one else has to endure life-long tragedy caused by this senseless and 100 % preventable crime.. They walk and run alongside fellow Southwest Florida citizens for a community where there are safe and sober roads and No More Victims.

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the word ' influencer ' mean the power or capacity of causing an effect in indirect or intangible ways . For MADD, the word ' influencer ' refers to a peer to peer group that explores and discusses the risks of underage drinking, how it impacts driving and how to make good decisions both before and after the age of 21.
