Deepen Sense of Purpose by Asking the Right Questions By Cecilia B. Loving*
What would I really love to do? What moves me? What am I passionate about? What am I an activist for? What would you give your life to change in this world?
Where have you always been drawn? What do you people say you’re good at? What’s fun and absorbing for you? What do you know about from firsthand life experience? What do you want your legacy to be? What do you want to be acknowledged and remembered for? Imagine you have only 5 years left to live. In terms of work, what would you most like to accomplish? What do you want the message of your life to have been when all is said and done? What is the best use of my life? What am I ready to dedicate myself to?
What other facets of your life (outside of work) are important to you? What kinds of accomplishments outside of work would be fulfilling for you? What do you want to make more time for? How does creativity fit into your life? What forms of self-expression do you need?Who and what inspires you?
What have you thought you “should” do in life and in work? How does that measure up against what you truly want?
What is truly important to you? What gives you motivation and satisfaction? Which of your experiences have been most fulfilling and what made them so?
In what instances did you feel you were “at your best?” What were you doing? Who were you with? What were the practical tasks that you were performing? What was the substantive focus of the task?
