Our wide scope of availability continues to enhance our expertise and ensure the quality of life for countless patients in the DMV area. Be it a performance checkup or for an unexpected bodily injury, we make your needs our priority. Our initial evaluation includes observation of static and movement patterns, pain provocation tests, active, passive, and resisted tests, specific joint tests, specific ligament tests if appropriate, specific neurologic testing, and functional testing. Rather than simply focusing on the actual painful/affected area, we examine a patient as a “whole person,” determining the source of the problem/tissue dysfunction and figuring out how the surrounding joints and various tissues can affect the current impairments. We correlate all findings and provide a specific physical therapy/manual therapy diagnosis, in addition to developing a specific treatment plan for the patient. Our true care and concern for each patient is evident in each physical therapy session.

Manual Therapy & Myofascial Release at MMA & Sports Rehab

Manual Therapy Manual therapy involves specialized hands-on techniques that target areas of your body that are limited in motion, works to improve your movement and reduce your pain. Manual therapy is especially beneficial if you are experiencing spine problems, joint injuries, or other health conditions. Our expert physical therapists at MMA & Sports Rehab have years of specialized training to provide gentle, specific, hands-on therapies to address muscle and joint injuries. This includes massage (soft tissue mobilization), joint mobilization, and neuromuscular techniques to help you feel better. Myofascial Release Fascia is the system of connective tissue fibers that lay just under the surface of our skin that may look like a spider’s web or sweater. Fascia is highly organized in a mesh formulation of tubules filled with water, and its job is to attach, stabilize, enclose and create a compartment to separate muscles and internal organs between each other. With trauma or post-surgery or dysfunction or irritation, fascia tends to get irritated resulting in increased scar tissue formation and causes restriction in soft tissues underneath them. Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. It is performed directly on skin without oils, creams or machinery. This enables the physical therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia.
