Stuart Holden. A minister prayed, “Help us to keep to the truth as it is in Jesus." I could not help reminding him that the text is : “As the truth is in Jesus.” The words are often misquoted, and given: “The truth as it is in Jesus.” There is no “i t ” If there were, it would make “truth” to be elsewhere; whereas, “as the truth is in Jesus” confines “truth” to be “in Je sus,” and in Him alone. Not without meaning and suggestion is “truth” said to be “in Jesus," and no “in Christ.” The Man of Nazareth is the One in whom truth is found. When Pilate asked Him, “What is truth?” Pilate did not wait for an answer. No answer was needed, for He who had previously said, “I am the Truth,” stood before him. What did Christ claim for Himself? 1. Deity. “Before Abraham was, I am” (John 8:58). He claimed to be the great I AM (Rev. 1:11). 2. Humanity. He speaks of Himself again and again as “the Son of man” (Matt. 20:28). 3. Equality. Equality with the Father; yea, He is the Father expressed (John 14:9). 4. Savability. “He came to seek and to save that which is lost” (Lk. 19:10). 5. Vitality. He is the life eternal, and gives eternal life (John 3:14-16, 36). 6. Luminosity. He is the light, the truth, and the rev elation of God (John 8:12). 7. Sufficiency. He is the Bread of Life to satisfy (John 6:48). — F. E. The Will o f God I worship Thee, sweet Will of God, And all Thy ways adore; And every day I live, I seem To love Thee more and more. When obstacles and trials seem Like prison walls to be, I do the little I can do, And leave the rest to Thee. I have no cares, O blessed Will, For all my cares are Thine; I live in triumph, Lord, for Thou Hast made Thy triumphs mine. i — F. W. Faber.
