It was a shame the weekend ended with my well-publicised crash on Sunday, but thankfully former Solo sailor Kim Furniss came to the rescue, repairing the demo boat in just five days so it was ready for the next sailor in time for the Nationals. Since then, I've picked up my own boat: 5914 Paul Davis Boat Yard at Beer hull, complete with a new D+ Needlespar mast and a North P4 sail. I'm absolutely raring to get back out on the circuit, again. Shout out to Paul for sourcing all the bits to make a very competitive package. Western Area Representative Vernon Perkins has told me that, despite starting the season late, there are still enough qualifying events for me to compete in the Western Series. That means another shot at the Western Championship could be on the cards after winning the title in 2023 following a closely fought series. Looking ahead to the Nationals, my expectations are high. Equipment-wise, I've got all my favourite kit. I sailed in the bay at the end of June during the Tasar Nationals, and the venue feels remarkably similar to my home club at Porthpean. The water depth, wave patterns and the way the wind interacts with the land on offshore days all feel very familiar. I'd be delighted with a top-15 finish, but if everything comes together and I avoid any silly mistakes, I genuinely believe I have the pace to challenge for a top-10 result.
