Workforce Development

Workplace Development remains a major focus for the THA as we know by developing, training and providing opportunities the sector will remain in good hands both now and well into the future. For the remainder of 2022 we have several key focus areas, which will be led by Workforce Development manager Roger O’Meagher.

Awareness Sessions Delivering Hospitality Awareness Sessions (which include a skill session e.g. barista) to remainder of schools who haven’t undertaken one so far in 2022. UTas Following on from our successful trial project of presenting hospitality career information and recruitment support to international students in Hobart and Launceston, the THA is looking to grow the program with UTas to become a regular part of the university calendar, with targeted events for the start of each semester. These events give students the opportunity to enrol in a VXT course, receive advice on writing a resume targeting hospitality, job seeking advice, registration on the Tas Tourism & Hospitality Jobs website and a chance to meet with businesses recruiting staff. Recruitment Fair The inaugural Recruitment Fair – ‘targeting the next generation’, is scheduled for November 23. This fair is targeting students who will have recently finished college and youth from services we work with, like the Migrant Resource Centre. Businesses will be invited to promote their vacancies and to meet potential candidates. Businesses will know that the participants

Drysdale Partnership The THA partnered with Drysdale to promote and support the delivery of skill sets in bar and front of house over the October school holidays, with evening service shifts to follow. The THA has also worked with local businesses who will recruit directly from participants who successfully complete the course. If successful, this training will be offered at additional times in 2023. Hospitality Grow The THA is supporting the Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) to deliver its hospitality Grow Program. Specific kitchen skills will be taught to participants and the THA will provide support to participants as they transition out of the program into paid employment.
