Tarsus Group, organizer of the Labelexpo Global Series, has an- nounced that Labelexpo Asia 2022 will be postponed until 2023. Labelexpo Asia will now take place at the Shanghai New Interna- tional Expo Centre (SNIEC) in Chi- na on December 5-8, 2023. “Unfortunately, due to ongoing uncertainty surrounding COVID and further uncertainty about events opening up in Shanghai, we have reluctantly decided to post- pone the show until next year,” said Labelexpo Asia Show Director Kevin Liu. The last edition of Labelexpo Asia in 2019 attracted more than 23,000 visitors from 90 countries, making it the second biggest visi- tor event in the Labelexpo Global Series calendar. Amcor Triples Recycled Target Amcor, Victoria, Australia, has re- leased its 2022 Sustainability Re- port, detailing continued progress against key sustainability metrics and announcing an enhanced tar- get to achieve 30 percent recycled content across its portfolio by the end of the decade. To reduce the environmental impact, it is imperative for industry stake- holders to adopt solutions, such as sustainable film packaging, which incorporate the principles of the circular economy and integrate seamlessly into sustainability initiatives.

posed of in landfills which have harmful environ- mental effects. The use of plastic films as packaging is important for many product categories in order to provide protection to goods and to maintain a hygienic atmosphere. Circular packaging can play a significant role in reducing plastic waste global- ly by allowing these materials to be reused rather than discarded. The circular economy offers a new way for indus- tries to accomplish their financial, ecological, and social objectives. The growth in the sustainable films for packaging market is expected to be driven by an increasing focus on the circular economy and the growing awareness of its environmental bene- fits among end users and consumers. Various com- panies have set goals to achieve sustainability by including packaging materials that are either recy- clable or reusable to incorporate them into the cir- cular economy of their nations. For instance, Amcor, an American-Australian global packaging company, has set a goal to make all its products sustainable by the end of 2025. With an increased worldwide focus on the circu- lar economy, the shift toward eco-friendly industrial practices is increasing, thereby creating demand for

Growth in the sustainable films for packaging market is being driven by the increasing focus on reducing plastic waste, government initiatives promoting the circular economy, and increasing demand for sustainability among consumers. The global sustainable films for packaging market was valued at $140.0 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach $276.2 billion by 2031, growing at a Com- pound Annual Growth Rate of 7.0 percent during the forecast period 2022-2031. The growth in the global sustainable films for packaging market is expected to be driven by an increasing focus on the circular economy and the growing awareness of its environmental benefits among end users and consumers. However, the lack of recycling technology and the high cost of raw materials are some key restraining factors for the market. The long-term alternatives for a circular economy include waste incineration, treatment, and dispos- al. Polyethylene is the largest consumed material in various types of packaging films in the form of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Since such packaging films are not reusable or recyclable they are usually dis-

the company committed to net zero emissions by 2050, more than doubled post-consumer recycled material purchased since 2019 and achieved a Gold rating from EcoVadis for its sustainability practices, placing Amcor among the top 5 percent of all com- panies assessed. The report highlights how Amcor has advanced on its pledge to make all products recyclable, re- usable or compostable by 2025, with 74 percent of total production by weight already designed to be recycled and the number of products with more sustainable properties continually growing. In 2022, the company launched a product rebrand that includes its new EcoGuard brand that makes it easier for customers to choose from a number of more sustainable solutions, according to the com- pany, including products that reduce the carbon footprint of packaging, are designed to be recycled and use recycled content or biomaterials. Circular Economy (Cont’d from Page 3) sustainable products. Additionally, businesses that create and or sell packaging are also adopting sus- tainable methods by collecting, reusing, recycling, and composting packaging materials. These meth- ods go beyond the traditional packaging designs to attain the sustainable goals of the circular economy. The global sustainable films for packaging mar- ket is in a growing phase. New trends, such as the development of bioplastics, are further expected to provide opportunities for the market to grow in the coming years. With an increased worldwide focus on the circu- lar economy, the shift toward eco-friendly industrial practices is increasing, thereby creating demand for sustainable products. The shift is more prominent in the food and beverages industry in regions such as Europe and North America. The COVID-19 pandemic had a huge impact on the global sustainable films for packaging market. It altered the market in both positive as well as neg- ative ways. During the COVID-19 pandemic, sectors that help meet necessities, such as providing food and supplies to consumers securely, were increas- ingly disrupted.

Resource Label Group, a full-service provider of pressure sensitive labels, shrink sleeve and RFID/ NFC technology, has acquired Scentisphere, an in- novator in scent activation and marketing. Scentisphere specializes in omni-channel scent marketing and activation technologies for brands to integrate into each consumer touchpoint of their media allocation, marketing communications, and packaging. Flavor Technologies Founded in 2002 by partners James Berard and Bob Bernstein, Scentisphere offers a broad range of fragrance and flavor sampling technologies to help its customers drive trial, conversion and sales. The company has engineered a variety of scent sam- pling innovations including Scent-A-Peel, Shopping Scenter, and Experiscenter. The company also offers a range of specialty inks and scent coatings marketed under Rub’nSmell, Snap’nBurst, Scratch’nSniff and Scent-A-Coat. The addition of Scentisphere represents the 26th acquisition for Resource Label.

European Labelstock Rebounds In Third Quarter In the third quarter, labelstock demand in Europe rebounded strongly, after a poor first half of the year caused by strike related paper shortages from Finland, according to a new report from FINAT. For the first three quarters as a whole, the Euro- pean label industry recorded a modest growth of 1.7 percent compared to the same period last year. Compared to the third quarter in 2021, European consumption of paper roll labelstocks increased by no less than 11.9 percent, after a sharp YoY drop of 8.3 percent in the previous quarter. For filmic roll label applications, demand compared to the same quarter in 2021 accelerated by a healthy plus of 8.4 percent, compared to a modest year-on-year growth of 2.2 percent in Q2. Both trends indicate a strong rebound after the collapse that was caused by long lasting paper mill strikes in Finland since the beginning of the year, leading to severe paper shortages and lead times going up to 5-6 months for release liner and paper facestock applications. Now that backlogs are being completed, the key question remains how the general economic uncer- tainties will affect labelstock demand going forward.

Foundation For Packaging Education Hosts Fundraiser The Foundation for Packaging Education held its inaugural fundraising event November 8-10 at The Sanctuary resort on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Nearly 80 attendees came together to celebrate and support industry education for those already employed in the paper-based converting industries. The event began with an evening reception and the following morning golfers played the Osprey Point course on Kiawah while others went on an excursion of nearby Charleston, South Carolina. A reception and dinner capped off the day with Foundation for Packaging Education Chairman Jay Carman making remarks. He reminded everyone of the mission of the Foun- dation, to ensure the longevity and ongoing devel- opment of education and training programs for those already working in the industry. Education and training are vital to employee retention and employee satisfaction. The funds raised brought the raised and pledged amount of the Foundation to nearly $3 million. To learn more about the Foundation visit www. packaginged.org . Self-Heating Food Packaging Market Grows The self-heating food packaging market is poised to grow by $1.51 billion from 2021 to 2026 at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 4.6 percent during the forecast period, according to a report published in October by Technavio. The primary drivers of the segment’s growth are affordable pric- es and prompt delivery. The report provides a detailed analysis of emerg- ing market trends, regional outlook, competitive landscape, and a comprehensive analysis of differ- ent market segments. During the projected period, the offline segment’s market share increase of self-heating food packag- ing would be significant. Supermarkets and hyper- markets, retail outlets, and wholesalers make up the offline distribution route. In 2021, the offline distribution channel segment comprised a majority in this market. During the forecast period, APAC will account for 35 percent of market growth; the self-heating food packaging market in the region is dominated by China, Japan, and India. This region’s market will expand more quickly than those in other areas.

QR Code Labels Market To Reach $1339.1 million The global QR Code Labels market size is project- ed to reach $1339.1 million by 2028, from $889.2 million in 2021, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 5.6 percent during 2022-2028, according to a new report from Proficient Market Insights. Cascades Pre-Qualified By How2Recycle Cascades has confirmed that all of its consumer products packaging manufactured under the Cas- cades Fresh, Cascades E-Com Packaging Solutions, Cascades IMGN Retail Solutions and northbox brands have been submitted to How2Recycle for an evaluation of their recyclability potential. How2Recycle is a standardized labelling system started by the Sustainable Packaging Coalition to clearly communicate packaging recycling instruc- tions to the public based on rigorous protocols and market data. Cascades has chosen to have the recyclability of the packaging it manufactures assessed, saving its customers the time and money required for this step. Brand owners and retailers can request their recyclability labels directly from How2Recycle, without the need for prior testing by outside labs. By providing its customers with pre-qualifica- tion letters, Cascades has simplified the process by confirming the recyclability of its packaging in ad- vance. These pre-qualifications are valid in Canada and the United States. All packaging manufactured by Cascades for food and other consumer products underwent the How- 2Recycle recyclability assessment. Cascades is con- tinuing its efforts to have all of its packaging recy- clable, compostable or reusable by 2030.
