Wednesday 25th September 10:00 – 10:30 EXFO The keys to seamless integrated photonics characterization – EXFO’s OPAL series of PIC testing solutions Speaker: Dr François Couny, EXFO
14:50 – 15:20 Avicena MicroLEDs – Not just for fancy displays! A new paradigm in ultra-low power optical interconnects for AI Speaker: Simon Richmond, Avicena Avicena is spearheading a revolution in optical interconnect technology, addressing the limitations of existing solutions. By leveraging ultra- fast microLEDs, Avicena delivers ultra-low energy, high-bandwidth interconnects with exceptionally low power consumption (<1pJ/bit) and shoreline densities exceeding 2Tbps/mm. These ultra-fast microLEDs can be integrated with On-Board Optics (OBO) and Co-Packaged Optics (CPO), offering significantly superior bandwidth compared to current technologies. This innovation enables a substantial increase in memory and GPU capacity by supporting multi- meter interconnects with extremely high bandwidth density, low power usage, and low latency. These advancements pave the way for high- speed 12Tbps optical interconnects with a reach of up to 10 meters. ITU-T SG15 – Standards update on higher speed PON, latest OTN technologies and interoperable optical interfaces Moderator: Glenn Parsons, Ericsson, Chair of ITU-T Study Group 15 ITU Frank Effenberger, Futurewei Technologies Fabio Cavaliere, Ericsson Bert Klaps, Huawei Technologies Düsseldorf GmbH The international standards (ITU-T Recommendations) developed by ITU-T Study Group 15 provide technical specifications giving shape to global communication infrastructure. The group’s standards define technologies and architectures of optical transport networks enabling long-haul global information exchange; fibre- or copper-based access networks through which subscribers connect; and home networks connecting in-premises devices and interfacing with the outside world. This includes the development of standards for the optical transport network, access network and home network infrastructures, systems, equipment, optical fibres and cables and the related installation, maintenance, management, test, instrumentation and measurement techniques, and control plane technologies to enable the evolution toward intelligent transport networks. This session presents hot topics from the latest development of international standards (ITU-T Recommendations) within ITU-T SG15, in particular, High Speed and Very High Speed PON (Passive Optical Network), and new applications of the technology such as FTTRoom, FTTGrid, FTTIndustry, as well as OTN (Optical Transport Network) evolution beyond 800G, including optimizations for Ethernet clients. The session will also discuss interoperable optical interface standardization work, focusing on work related to fibre characteristics and transmitter quality metrics. 15:30 – 17:00 ITU
