Dulwich EAL Diploma
In order to be awarded the diploma/certificate, pupils will be required to give a presentation to their EAL teacher and answer related questions on their undertaking of the following tasks/activities/challenges:
1. Visit at least three of the following places:
The Victoria and Albert Museum
Dulwich Picture Gallery The Tower of London Hyde Park or Regents Park
British Museum Tate Modern Buckingham Palace Tate Britain National Gallery or National Portrait Gallery Imperial War Museum
China Town London Zoo Science Museum
The Horniman Museum Natural History Museum
2. Give a talk in one of your AS level subjects (perhaps in one of the society meetings)
3. Read a novel in English written by an Old Alleynian
4. Go to the theatre to watch a play or musical
5. Give a five minute presentation to the EAL class on a topic of your choice
6. Represent your Day House in an activity
7. Attend at least two talks given by outside speakers at DC
8. Attend at least two of the optional EAL outings
9. Write a 500 word essay in preparation for your Extended Essay in Year 13
10. Achieve at least 6.5 in Writing and Speaking in the IELTS test (boys will be awarded an EAL tie when they have achieved this)
Extra credit will be awarded for;
Having been invited for a meal or to stay over at the house of a non-boarder. Other involvement in the wider life of the College e.g. start a Club or Society, join a team or choir/ensemble or cast, attend a place of worship, write for The Alleynian. Involvement in the life of the community e.g. through charitable work or community service (to a level which secures recognition, such as a Community Service tie PASS (if you complete 6 of the suggested tasks) MERIT (if you compete the 10 tasks) DISTINCTION (if you complete all tasks and gain additional credit) The diploma will be awarded either in a school assembly or at a special Boarding community gathering.
