Morgantown Magazine Spring 2020 Edition

Best Artist Jamie Lester

Jamie Lester has created so many works that express Morgantown and West Virginia pride. Morgantown has his Jerry West and “Hot Rod” Hundley statues at the WVU Coliseum, his Milan Puskar statue at WVU’s Milan Puskar Stadium, the Zackquill Morgan statue at the Public Service Building, and the Don Knotts likeness that welcomes visitors to the Metropolitan Theatre downtown—not to mention his New River Gorge Bridge design on the West Virginia quarters in our pockets. Many more of Lester’s monuments appear across the state—at the Boy Scouts of America’s Summit Bechtel Reserve in Mt. Hope, in Oak Hill, in Beckley—and even the 9/11 Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance and beyond. Lester is a painter and musician as well. When COVID lets up, look for him at Morgantown’s popular Arts Walks. vandaliabronze.com, @vandaliabronze on Facebook and Instagram

Liz Pavlovic’s punny, quirky West Virginia–themed designs provoke smiles at arts events in Morgantown and all around. Pavlovic taught herself computer graphic design tools as a kid. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at WVU in 2010 and has since grown a following. Pavlovic loves the infinite color palette and complete control digital design offers. Designs like her pepperoni roll andWest Virginia hot dog came out of wantingWest Virginia merchandise that wasn’t necessarilyWVU-related, she says. She’d always drawn weird monsters, and her charming designs of cryptids, especially the ones fromWest Virginia—Mothman, the Flatwoods monster—followed after she attended the Mothman Festival a few years ago. Fans love her sense of humor and unique style. Find Pavlovic’s designs on magnets, greeting cards, and a wide range of other affordable merchandise and wearable art online, or at Earth Magic, Galactic Panther, or Hoot and Howl in town. Look for her booths when handcrafted markets and Arts Walks start again. lizpavlovic.com, @lizzypavlovic on Facebook, @keepon_creepinon on Instagram
