Best Interior Designer

Jackie Koval

When Jackie Koval and her husband, Stephen, started selling hot tubs through Koval Supply in Granville in the late 1970s, she wanted customers to really get a feel for the tubs before they made the investment. Each time she had an interested customer, Koval would ask her husband to haul a tub out of the warehouse so the customers could actually sit in it. He promised her that one day he would build her a showroom so large he would never have to haul another hot tub again. That dream showroom is on Scott Avenue, and from it, over the past 25 years, she has sold plenty of hot tubs—and found her passion and eye for interior design. Koval is definitely doing something right. She recently entered PittsburghMagazine’s Best of Design contest and earned top honors frommore than 500 entries. In another recent contest, her designs landed in the top 50 kitchen designs in the world. And now she’s Best of Morgantown. 65 Scott Avenue, 304.296.7727, kovalsupply.com, @kovalbuildingsupply

Best Insurance Agency Davis Insurance Group

It’s so easy to get insurance directly these days—why go through an agent? An agent is essentially a free adviser, says Davis Insurance Group Principal Agent Tyler Davis, great-grandson of the agency’s founder. And a local agent who knows your conditions will advocate for your claim in a way that a person answering an 800 number will not. Started in 1947, DIG is now run by third- and fourth-generation family members. DIG always partnered with Nationwide Insurance but, in 2020, it became an independent agency, allowing it to work with more providers and handle more kinds of risk. “Not every company can insure a modular home or mobile home, but we can. Bars and taverns are at times considered risky, or the CBD industry—now we’re equipped to cover those things. That’s the value of an independent agent.” 179 Holland Avenue, Westover, 304.296.5481, insuremorgantown.com, @davisinsurancegroup

Best Electrician Edison Electric

Master electrician Abram Edison has only been contracting through Edison Electric since 2019, but word of mouth has made his business grow quickly. Why do customers recommend him to their friends? “We do anything—old work, service work, and we’ll come into someone’s house and change out a bad receptacle or put up a light fixture, where most contractors are looking for bigger jobs,” Edison says. “We have a 24-hour emergency service as well—we’ll show up for an emergency, no matter what time it is.” Customers also appreciate the ability to communicate with Edison and his three technicians by text message. “It’s more convenient for a lot of people. That goes a long way.” Ask Edison what’s fun about his work, and he laughs. “I actually really, really, really love what I do,” he says. “I love meeting new people, servicing north central West Virginia, giving people a great professional experience, eliminating hazards. That’s what I do all day—eliminate hazards. It feels good.” 304.685.7891, @edisonelectric304
