Best Photographer

The dramatic photos in skateboarding magazines got Grayson Hall interested in photography as a high school student in Spencer, West Virginia. He used the film camera his dad gave him in 2005 so much, he wore it out. When he graduated to digital, he took his film sensibility with him—a careful eye for great framing and light. Hall blew through the couple of photography classes at WVU and decided to make his own way, and never looked back. In 10 years as a professional photog- rapher, he’s developed a well-rounded practice that encompasses real estate, wed- dings, portraits, and concerts as well as drone photography and videography. He prides himself in interesting shots—“As a skateboarder you look at ramps or stairs and think, ‘How can I skate that?’ I do the same with photography: ‘This could be a normal shot, but if you take it from this angle it makes it completely differ- ent’”—and in eye-catching photo editing.
