5 components of success with Tagetes

Like higher pH!

Don’t over- water

Alterna ria!

Be careful with high Fe / Mn

Ca for strong plants

Public

1 st component of success – pH higher!

3 rd component of success. Feed your plants!

Media EC: SME 0.5 to 0.75 mS/cm Fertilizer: 75–125 ppm N (these concentration give EC in the water 0.8―1.5 mSm/cm) Provide Ca & Mg for strong plants

These are different EC!

Don’t apply high phosphorus

Pay attention Ca and Mg fertigation. NPK fertilizers are poor with Ca and Mg

Apply Ca(NO 3 ) 2 + Mg(NO 3 ) 2 every 3

Recognize EC correctly!

EC in the watering solution & EC in the substrate are not the same! EC in the water is all fertilizers given with watering solution

EC in the substrate is everything that was not absorbed by the plant

Will stay in the substrate

Absorbing by the plant

How to translate from ppm of N to weight units?

1

Let’s start with 75 ppm of Nitrogen.

2

75 ppm is 75 mg in one Kg because 1 ppm is 1 part in 1’000’000 by weight or 0,000001 of 1 Kg

There is NPK with the rate 15%-09%-20% available

3

75 mg is the nitrogen (N) weight only.

Recommendation in culture guides

4

It is necessary to know weight of entire fertilizer. But we know that 75 mg is 15% from the entire fertilizer weight

5

Thus, to find an entire weight we need to calculate: 75 x 100/15 = 500 mg of fertilizer in 1 liter.

How to prepare watering solution?

Main rule – never apply clean water!

Let’s consider the simple way of watering – with direct fertilizers dissolving into the water. Needs to prepare 200 l of solution with concentration 500 mg/l of NPK fertilizers. With target EC 0.8 mSm Let’s recalculate fertilizer weight (M) for 200 l M = 500 mg x 200 = 100’000 mg (100 g). Add a bit more fertilizers

7

Measure 100 g of NPK and dissolve into the tank

Add water up to 200 l and mix well

Is EC reach 0.8 ?

Thus, it is necessary to dissolve 100 g of NPK in 200 l.

5

Yes

Measure EC in the solution

4

Take a tank on 250 – 300 l and fill it with 100 – 150 l of water

Transplanting #1. Place. Be prepared. • Prepare clean substrate. • Prepare clean place. • Protect your plants in advance. • Use biological protection!  Chemical treatment: propamocarb (Previcur), fludioxonil),  Biological protection ( Gliocladium catenulaturm , Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus amylolquefaciens, Streptomyces sp. K 61, Streptomyces lydicus strain WYEC 108, Trichoderma harzianum, Trichoderma virens, Trichoderma asperellum, Trichoderma gamsii… ) • Provide a drainage & a slope!

Public

Transplanting #2. Substrate

Be prepared.

• Possible substrate: - alluvial soil from river valleys, - volcanic soils, - substrates on the base of cocopeat, - substrates on the base of peat, - substrates on the base of woof fiber,

Advise to use cocopeat as premix to natural soils substrate (20 or 30%).

Put hypocotyl deeper.
