Sabrina Zahnen Senior Director of Academic Advising, College of Arts & Sciences
Dr. Timothy Smith joined Embry-Riddle in 2006 as a tenure-track faculty member in the Department of Mathematics at the Daytona Beach College of Arts & Sciences, later gaining tenure and then full professorship. He served as the program coordinator for the B.S. in Computational Mathematics and then the M.S. in Data Science before transitioning to the Worldwide College of Arts & Sciences in 2024 to take on his current role as professor and department chair. During his time at the Daytona Beach College of Arts & Sciences, Dr. Smith was a core member of a research group focused on the equations of fluid mechanics, publishing several journal articles and co-authoring a textbook in the field. More recently, his research shifted toward mathematical finance, primarily predicting market volatility through applications of the Black-Sholes equation and incorporating modern data analysis methods such as statistical learning. In addition to publishing more than 25 research articles, Dr. Smith has mentored more than 100 undergraduate student capstone research projects and served on multiple thesis committees. As department chair, Dr. Smith is committed to advancing the mission of the department while producing research that balances academic rigor with practical impact or investors.
Sabrina Zahnen serves as the senior director of academic advising and has been a proud member of the Embry-Riddle community since 2004. Sabrina brings nearly two decades of experience in academic advising and student success, with a deep commitment to helping students thrive in a global learning environment. Sabrina holds a Master of Business Administration in Aviation from Embry-Riddle and leverages her comprehensive knowledge of university operations to support students and staff. In her current role, she leads a dynamic advising team who serve undergraduate and graduate students across the college. They provide proactive, student-focused guidance that promotes academic progress, timely graduation and supports the university’s goals for retention and enrollment. A dedicated mentor and advocate for professional development, Sabrina fosters a team that emphasizes accountability, innovation and continuous improvement. She believes that effective advising begins with strong relationships, and she remains inspired by the impact of connection, compassion and community in helping students reach their goals.
Dr. Tina Frederick Senior Research and Scholarship Mentor Chair, College Research Council
Dr. Christina Frederick is a professor and program chair for the B.S. in Human Factors Psychology in the Department of Human Factors, Safety and Social Sciences at the Worldwide College of Arts & Sciences. She earned her Ph.D. in Psychological Development from the University of Rochester in 1991 and joined Embry-Riddle in 2000. Her work is focused on motivation and human factors in applied domains, with current research examining vitality, well-being and team motivation. She also frequently writes and presents on the topic of leadership. Dr. Frederick also serves as the senior research and scholarship mentor. She has authored over 80 research articles and 120 presentations. She remains actively involved in several professional organizations, including the Society of Psychologists in Leadership and Psi Chi International.
