Job Description

• To identify and map cross project dependencies. To analyse, report and address any impacts of missed key milestones, and to instigate appropriate rectification measures whilst maintaining stakeholder engagement. • To deliver projects to the highest quality and standards, leading the project delivery process from inception through to occupancy. • To deputise for the Assistant Director Strategic and Capi- tal Development and Head of Capital Projects as/when required. • Line Management of Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers as appropriate. • To be responsible for developing project initiation docu- ments and project delivery plans as well as other project reports ensuring appropriate stakeholder engagement. • Demonstrate analytical ability, strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent stakeholder manage- ment, the ability to prioritise and take ownership of work, and experience in implementing delivery and transformation projects. • To lead the design process ensuring that projects are designed within agreed quality standards and budget constraints ensuring projects are properly appraised for lifecycle management to minimise the ongoing costs and liabilities. • Liaison with other sections within Estates and Facilities and elsewhere in the University in order to ensure seam- less, first class customer service. • To manage project Health and Safety ensuring compli- ance with statutory requirements, Estates & Facilities processes and best practice. • To procure consultants, contractors and suppliers as required in accordance with the University financial regulations and procurement procedures. • To obtain the necessary statutory and University ap- provals and consents. • To manage construction and engineering operations on site to ensure compliance with designs and specifica- tions. • To be responsible for outurn project costs, managing all costs within approved project/programme budgets and cash flow forecasts. • To manage, prepare and present papers for project board meetings and project governance gateway ap- provals, reporting on progress, quality, budget/cash flow and ongoing management of project risk registers. • To thoroughly understand, and stay abreast of design, construction and project management methodologies and the London construction market.

The postholder will have the ability to take a strategic view of projects and programmes of work, analyse challenges and project delivery options and be able to translate them into actionable deliverables and drive them to completion. The postholder will have the ability to think commer- cially and strategically – quickly assess and quantify short and long term impact of changes, deal with ambiguity and uncertainty and be able to evaluate options to meet business expectations and provide maximum value. Main duties and responsibilities • To contribute to and continuously develop the Estates Enabling Plan. • To demonstrate ownership of their project re- sponsibilities and communicate it confidently to both internal and external stakeholders. • To lead, motivate and manage cross functional, multi-disciplined teams, taking an active role in facilitating, negotiating and influencing both internal and external project stakeholders and managing their expectations; building sustaina- ble relationships and developing networks. • Ensure accountability within existing governance process and contribute to effective governance and business planning.

Job context The Projects team (consisting of the capital and mi- nor project teams) are responsible for the Master Planning and Development of all campuses forming the Queen Mary University of London estate. The team manage a large capital programme from incep- tion to completion, delivering projects on budget, on programme and to a high standard of quality. Primary responsibility of the Senior Project Manager is to deliver capital projects within the Estates Eanbling Plan which supports Queen Mary University of London Strategy 2030. As part of the Capital Projects Team, the role is re- sponsible for effective stakeholder management and a customer centric delivery through proactive man- agement of risks and issues. Job purpose Accountable to and working closely with the Assis- tant Director Strategic and Capital Development and Head of Capital Projects, the Senior Project Manager is responsible for the successful implementation of a portfolio of diverse major projects at the Univer- sity. Projects will typically be complex in nature and above £5m in value. Projects will include development, construction, re- furbishment, engineering and infrastructure projects The post holder will act as the QMUL client and deliv- er first class projects, forming the necessary links between all involved parties.
