How to Use Virtual Tours For Apartment Hunting

Need to move into an apartment but don’t feel entirely comfort- able leaving the house to do it? Coronavirus has changed how most people are looking for their next apartment. Luckily, virtual tours are now available for many properties. Even though the experience isn’t the same as in-person visits, it’s not nearly as stressful as picking a place unseen. Here, we’ve provided a guide to help potential residents get an authentic look at apart- ments when touring virtually. The Virtual Tour Process Unlike most things about the coronavirus pandemic, the virtual tour experience is relatively easy. Online tours are a great step for seeing the space, getting a general sense of the layout, and determining whether you’d like more information about the apartment. Once you have decided that you’re interested in a potential apartment, it’s impor- tant to contact the leasing office or property manager and request a more personalized walkthrough via Zoom, Skype, or FaceTime. Ask the Right Questions During Your Virtual Tour Since you’re not doing an in- person visit, you’re unable to pick up on some of the nuances of an apartment, whether it be the upkeep of the community or noisy neighbors. It’s important

to ask the right questions to ensure that you’re finding the perfect apartment. Here are a few questions you can ask to help gain a better idea of the apart- ment and overall community: • How is cell phone cover- age in the apartment? • Can you send me an overall layout plan of the apartment? • Where on the property is the available apartment located? • What floor is the apartment on? • Can you walk around the property so I can get a sense of the community? • Can you show me the • How far is parking? • How close are major roads or busy streets? • Can I see a view from the balcony? Request Additional Photos Any apartment property manager or leasing agent should be more than happy to show off the community assets. Ask for detailed pictures that go beyond what the virtual tour can show. Want to see how much lighting your potential apartment gets? amenities (like pool, fit- ness center, mailroom)?

Ask for photos of the living room and bedrooms in the morning and evening. Get pictures inside of the closets, drawers, and cabinets to see how updated they are. Asking for additional photos is helpful when it comes time to making a final decision. Not seeing what you like? No problem! You can always continue your search elsewhere. Searching for a new apartment can be a stressful process, especially when limited to virtual property showings. That’s why we’ve provided a guide to ensure that you find the perfect apart- ment to satisfy your wants and needs. So, feel free to sit back and relax as you begin the virtual hunt for your new apartment.
