Fans should be fans, not fanatics - Respect for the opponent, spectators, coaches and of- ficials are necessary at all levels of athletics and activity programs. At VHSL contests, everyone’s behavior should be characterized by generosity and genuine concern for others. Display this respect the next time you attend a VHSL event - An educational environment is critical to the success of VHSL athletics and activity programs. An important part of that environment is perspective. Without proper perspective, the lessons learned lose their value. The ability to show that a feeling of self-worth is more im- portant than the outcome of any game is a vital lesson. - Participation in VHSL co-curricular activities offers a plentiful supply of sold real-life examples of the positive values that we place such an emphasis on later in life. Most of us learned to play by the rules through high school activities. The importance of teamwork often was learned on a football field, or in a band, or during concert or play. The need to respect authority is a vital part of the interscholastic experience as is the value of commitment.
- Role models are more important than ever in today’s society. You can serve as a role model for others the next time you display good sportsmanship at a VHSL athletic event. Good sports are winners, so the next time you attend a sporting event, remember to be a good sport and act properly. Everyone appreciates the good values portrayed by acts of good sportsmanship. - Your ticket to a VHSL athletic event is a privilege, a privilege to watch youngsters learn on the playing field. One of the lessons taught to players is one spectators can follow as well – that of good sportsmanship. Unruly behavior is unacceptable in the classroom, and the athletic field is a classroom. - Ethics, integrity and respect are values important in our daily lives. All of these important values are learned by participation in VHSL activity programs. Coaches should set a good example for players and fans. Participants should treat opponents with respect. Respect should be extended to officials and judges.

The band program at Pulaski County High School has been a symbol of success and pride for the high school and residents of Pulaski County since the first notes were played in fall 1974. The pro- gram has received many awards, ranging from marching band and concert ensembles to indoor winter performing groups. The instrumental program at Pulaski County High School has produced thousands of fine musicians over the years. It has been through the efforts of those musicians that the program at PCHS has been named a Virginia Honor Band 15 times. Last year, the band was invited to perform at Radford University during a basketball game. Their performance promted RU to invite them back for a return performance. Following that performance, a Pep Band wsa formed creating an incredible atmosphere at PCHS basketball games. Emphasis on hard work and musicianship is what makes the Golden Cougar Marching Band “The Pride of Pulaski County.” HONORS AND AWARDS VIRGINIA HONOR BAND (15X) 1986-87, 1991-92, 1992-93, 1994-95, 1995-96, 1996-97, 1997-98, 1999-2000, 2000-01, 2003-04, 2007-08, 2008-09, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2018-19
