FOR BEST RESULTS, USE A SAWGRASS / RICOH SUBLIMATION PRINTER WITH A CAMEO VINYL CUTTER You can cut the film with scissors or with the Silhouette Cameo® vinyl cutter for a more accurate cut.
*IF YOU ARE USING SCISSORS TO CUT THE FILM:
• Print your artwork on sublimation paper with your sublimation printer • Roughly cut out the sublimation print leaving a border of approximately 2cm • Cut off a piece of film that is slightly larger than your pre -cut print • Press the sublimation paper to the film (following Steps 3 to 5 below) • Now cut out the image on the film as close to the edge as possible • Press to product (following Step 6 and the guidelines below)
*IF YOU ARE USING A VINYL CUTTER TO CUT THE FILM:
STEP 1 – Cutting the sublimation paper with the vinyl cutter:

Switch your registration marks (type 1) on Open up the correct size page (A4/A3) depending on your printer size Pull in the image you want to print and cut Create the cut line around the image – trace outer edge Print the image on sublimation paper, through Silhouette studio to your sublimation printer Remember to MIRROR ONLY the IMAGE in Silhouette studio (switch off mirror on Virtuoso print manager) – if you do not do this your registration marks will be in mirror and the machine will not cut Place the printed image back on the cutting mat and send it to cut.

STEP 2 – Cutting the film with the vinyl cutter:

Switch the registration marks off
Delete the colour image – keeping only the cut line UN-MIRROR the cut line again back to normal Place the film, with the glue side (matt side) facing down, on the cutting mat Send to cut with the same settings as used for cutting the paper

PRINTED SUBLIMATION PAPER
STEP 3 - Preparing the press

Set the press to 160°C / 320°F and 90 seconds
- Place 8 sheets of copy paper underneath the Teflon sheet on the press to reduce the bubbling of the glue on the film
STEP 4 - Aligning the print and film
-
Place the film with the glue side (matt side) facing the Teflon
- Place the sublimation print on top of the film with the printed side facing down - Line it up perfectly and tape it with heat tape to the Teflon to secure it

STEP 5 - Transferring of the print to the film

Press for 90 seconds with firm pressure
Open the press and remove the sublimation paper from the film
- The film will be stuck to the Teflon – lift a corner carefully to get a grip, then in one smooth motion remove it completely from the Teflon
STEP 6 - Pressing the chosen item

Place the film with the glue side facing the product you want to press

GUIDELINES ON HOW TO PRESS CERTAIN ITEMS
WOOD ITEMS, MIRRORS, METAL SHEETS, HARD PLASTIC PLATE
Find the glue side of the film (matt side)

• Place pre-sublimated film, glue side down, onto the item you want to press • Remove any bubbles by rubbing over the film with your fingers until smooth • Place a piece of copy paper on top of the film (which is already on the item) for protection • Press at 160 °C / 320°F for 240 seconds

POLYSTYRENE
Find the glue side of the film (matt side)

• Place pre-sublimated film, glue side down, onto the polystyrene item • Place a piece of copy paper on top of the film (which is already on the item) for protection • Press at 120°C / 250°C for 100 seconds • Pressure must be firm, but not too much that the polystyrene is compressed flat
FOIL CAKE PLATES AND CARDBOARD BOXES
Find the glue side of the film (matt side)

• Place pre-sublimated film, glue side down, onto the item you want to press • Place a piece of copy paper on top of the film (which is already on the item) for protection • Press at 160°C / 320°C for 90 seconds
MUGS AND GLASS BOTTLES
Find the glue side of the film (matt side)

• Place pre-sublimated film, glue side down, onto the item you want to press • secure with heat tape • Cut a piece of copy paper that covers the entire print and place it around the mug with the film for protection of the element from the sublimation ink • Press at 160°C / 320°C for 90 seconds For better results, the steps below could also be followed for glass items, but remember the alignment of the print on the film might not be as accurate as when the guidelines above are followed.
Cut your film to the correct size. Do not pre-sublimate the film

• Cut the sublimation print to the same size as the film • Align the film and the print • Place the glue side (matt side) of the un-sublimated film onto the mug and secure it with heat tape • Press at 190°C / 375°C for 240 seconds
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT ALL ITEMS DIFFER IN SIZE AND THICKNESS, THEREFORE THE ABOVE ARE ONLY GUIDELINES FOR SOME OF THE ITEMS WE HAVE PRINTED ON.
