Color-Logic provides training videos which enable graphic designers to begin apply- ing the metallic printing design tools immediately, for applications on metallic substrates or using silver ink on conventional substrates. Additionally, Richard Black, Midwest Sales Manager for Techkon USA, discussed the ways to best measure density and provide color matching in various print jobs, and Shawn Lowe, Head of Business Development for One Vision, discussed prepress and premedia and how a bottleneck in prepress can often be the single greatest challenge in packaging facilities. Future Of Flexo Gary Walton, who has been teaching at Cincinnati State for 43 years, discussed the increased importance of education in ensuring the continued growth and strength of the packaging marketplace.“What good is all this technology,” he said,“if you don’t have skilled people to run it.” He encouraged attendees to joinThe Friends of Print, a collective of companies, educational institutions and industry associations that are making donations to support and foster print programs and instruction to students at secondary and higher learning institutions “It’s time to get serious about educating young peo- ple about the career opportunities in print media,” Walton said. “In the 1970s there were more than 50 high schools in the Cincinnati area that had a printing curriculum.Today, there are only two.” Walton encouraged each attendee to devote at least one hour each week to thinking about ways to pro- mote the industry and encourage young people to make it a career choice. Nathan Safran,Vice President, Research, NAPCO Me- dia, provided a presentation based upon Napco Re- search’s study, Digital Packaging Printing: The Time Is Now! Safran discussed the digital packaging land- scape of today, how the demand has changed and the factors that are driving demand for digital packaging from brand owners.
