# NE of the most important features of the work o f the Biola Evangelistic Bands is the emphasis placed upon the personal touch. Over and over we meet with this expression in the reports:— “ Messrs. Y a n g a n d L i u , ” or
“ Formerly my son made a vow on my behalf to the Goddess o f Mercy, but I have decided that he shall not be bound by that vow, and shall not seek to carry it out, for now I have Jesus to watch over me and to protect me. People ridicule me for believing in Jesus and they
say that prayer is silly non sense, but I do not pay any attention to their ridicule, and I just think that my former praying to idols was indeed silly n . o n s e n s e.” Now father, mother and son come regularly to all the services and they are expe riencing the joys of a happy Christian home. . C alled N eighbors to H ear Last year a Mr. Lan came regularly to the even ing preaching services and often during'the day came in to talk about the Gospel, but he did not come to a definite decision. Early in the new year, after our men had worked diligently with him, he came out in a very clear decision for Christ. He asked the evangelists to come to his home and paste up some o f our Gospel post ers in place of the idola trous things that were on his walls. After a few days they went. Mr. Lan was out, but his wife welcomed them cordially and said: “ Oh, do come in and wait a little while. My husband will soon return, and while you are waiting for him you can preach the Gospel to our neighbors.” S h e called the neighbors to gether and after the evan gelists had spoken, she arose
other two workers, “ went out this afternoon to water the seed sown last week,” or “ went out to strengthen the relations with some new friends who were found last week.” ; This evening I want to jot down a few of the rich experiences met with during some of these' calls as related in the late reports o f Biola Evangel istic Band No. 9. A Mr. Kan was bap tized during the Chinese New Year holidays. He had been a very bad man, and as if afraid of himself he had been coming to our headquarters for a long time studying the Gospel earnestly, but in a v e r y quiet and unobtrusive way, almost secretly, as Nico- demus did, so that when he was baptized his wife was amazed to learn that he had become a Christian and had formally connected himself with the Church. One day our evangelists were passing his home and dropped in to have a talk with his wife. She said to them, “ How ever can such a man as my husband become a Chris tian?” This was their op portunity. They sat down with her and with utmost care- and earnestness ex plained to her the blessed

and gave the following beautiful t e s t i m o n y “ God is indeed the Creator of heaven and earth and all things, and Jesus is our Saviour. W e as a family believe in Jesus and worship the one true God, and the blessings derived from this faith and worship are unspeakably great.” She then called their attention to the Gospel posters and emphasized their superiority to the old idolatrous ornaments that had formerly adorned their walls. When asked how she came to know so much about the Gospel, she said that her husband had gone down to the Biola Evangelistic Band headquarters to learn about the Gospel
truth that the great work o f Jesus Christ is to call sin ners to repentance and save them, just such sinners as her husband had been; then, after carefully explaining the way o f salvation to her, they pleaded with her to believe in Jesus also. She did not come to a decision at that time, but after several days they again went to her house and in the course of their conversation she said: “ My hus band is truly another man; this Gospel is able to change a man’s heart; it is able to transform a bad man into a good man; and for that reason I have made up my mind to follow the Lord also and to cast out of my life all that is false.
