Slater Heelis is a respected and experienced full-service law firm with commercial offices in Manchester City Centre and Sale. As a client-focused firm, we offer in-depth legal expertise and with our origins dating back over 240 years, we pride ourselves on building relationships that last. Based in the London Bioscience Innovation Centre, its business is to develop technology to improve cell delivery for research and drug development purposes. The arrangements included an assignment of all IPR in respect of the delivery technology. Alderley Analytical Limited Advising Alderley Analytical Limited on its formation and funding round with Alderley Park Ventures and SPARK Impact.

Peak Proteins Limited Advising Peak Proteins Limited on its original incorporation at the Biohub in Alderley Park. The subsequently advised on the investment by Sygil Group Limited. Simon Wallwork Partner & Head of Corporate Commercial Meet the team

Simon Wallwork joined Slater Heelis in September 2014 from Weightmans LLP. He is based in Slater Heelis’ Manchester office.

With over 28 years experience advising on acquisitions, disposals, private equity and public market transactions for a wide variety of clients including public and private companies, banks, venture capital funds and partnerships, Simon also has considerable client side experience spending a number of years working in-house with Pilkington plc where he was involved in a number of cross border transactions. Simon has worked in the life sciences sector for over 20 years having acted on the listing of Oxford Molecular Group plc. He has acted for many companies in the sector from incorporation through funding rounds to eventual exit by way of sale or IPO. He has a deep understanding of the sector and its key drivers.

Rhian Owen Partner

Rhian is a member of our Corporate team in Manchester and works with Simon Wallwork. She has extensive experience advising on acquisitions, disposals, private equity transactions, joint ventures and general companylaw for a wide variety of clients. Rhian, a biomedical science graduate, is also a member of the firm’s Life Sciences sector team and has particular experience assisting biotech start-ups with raising finance. Rhian joined Slater Heelis in September 2014 and was previously a solicitor at Weightmans LLP and Geldards LLP, where she qualified in 2008. Rhian has also gained in-house experience as sole legal counsel to East Midlands Business Limited, which delivers a range of public sector support services.

Janet Robinson Associate Solicitor

Janet Robinson joined as an associate in the Corporate team in August 2015. Janet advises on a broad range of corporate matters including acquisitions, disposals, private equity investments, reorganisations and joint ventures / shareholders’ agreements. She acts for a wide variety of clients and is experienced in advising parties from the various sides of a transaction, whether that be sellers, buyers, management teams, private investors, venture capitalists or banks.

Tracey Guest Partner & Head of Employment

Tracey has specialised in employment law for over twelve years. She joined Slater Heelis in November 2009 as Partner and Head of the Employment department, having previously worked at various city centre law firms. Her work focuses on providing clear, practical advice on all aspects of employment law, including executive terminations, compromise agreements, redundancies, restrictive covenants and all types of employment law claims. She handles unfair dismissals, discrimination, TUPE, disciplinary and grievance procedures, family friendly rights and drafting documentation for a wide range of clients. Tracey is a regular speaker at seminars and provides client training at their premises on a variety of employment-related topics. She is frequently quoted in the press and is the featured expert for workingmums.co.uk providing regular advice on employment matters affecting mothers in the workplace. Tracey is recognised as a leading lawyer in the Legal 500 law directory.

Richard Riley Associate Solicitor

Richard joined Slater Heelis in 2011. He is experienced in commercial matters including legal issues relating to online businesses, infringement and protection of intellectual property rights, software development agreements, charity commercial participator agreements and franchise agreements. He advises on corporate matters including mergers and acquisitions, disposals, listings, management buyouts and reorganisations.

Elizabeth Wilkinson Partner & Head of Dispute Resolution

Elizabeth has over 20 years’ experience in advising on a wide range of commercial contract disputes, professional negligence actions and claims arising from the sale and purchase of businesses. She advises on the rights and obligations of directors and shareholders, partners and members of LLPs. She helps her clients to minimise risk in their operations and to protect the value of their businesses, in particular by enforcing restrictions in employment contracts and sale agreements. Throughout her career, Elizabeth has advised large corporates and PLCs, SMEs and owner-managed businesses as well as individuals. Elizabeth has been recognised as a Recommended Lawyer in The Legal 500 since 2009.
