By Bruce D. Edwards, Esq.

and above all, encouraged during this election season.

O n October 31, 2020, the Kap- pa League Committee for the Bowie-Mitchellville (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. facilitated a joint virtual Kappa League session with the Las Vegas (NV) Alumni Chapter. More than 45 Kappa Leaguers were able to receive critical life lessons as they were inspired upon listening to the tests, trials and triumphs of Brother Aaron Ford, the Attorney General for the State of Nevada. As Nevada’s highest-ranking law enforcement official and top lawyer, Brother Ford’s words of wisdom provided greater insight to enlighten our Kappa Leaguers as to the true magnitude of this year’s Election and what it means to their generation. Further, Brother Ford was able to impart knowledge on the importance of local elections and the significance of Black men pursuing careers in higher education. Brother Ford’s transparency in recalling some of his challenges as a young adult motivated our Kappa Leagu- ers to understand that the true quest for achievement may be enduring and arduous, yet it is remarkably fulfilling for those who choose to persevere to the end. Countless parents chimed in and of- fered their approval on such an impact- ful Kappa League session. And many Kappa Leaguers would later marvel at the sight of Brother Ford appearing on multiple national news outlets leading up to the November 3 rd Election Day. As an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Maryland, I truly embrace the role of exposure in preparing our young men for leadership. Additionally, it is vitally important for our young men to be educated, empowered, engaged,

I could think of no greater joy in cel- ebrating our fraternal Bond while men- toring our youth and collaborating with brothers more than 2,500 miles away.
