50 Years of Kappa League

tively impact the lives of so many young people.

Journal: As far as your athletic goals are concerned, what are your athletic goals for the season and professionally? Nixon: For the season my main goal is always to remain healthy, because with- out that, I won't be able to accomplish anything else. Then get an individual league title in the 800 meters, be named All- American, qualify for the Olympic trials, the make it to the Olympics. I'm just praying that I make it there. And that's the goal for right now. Journal: Alright brother. At this time I'd like yo give you the opportunity to impart some words of wisdom on the brothers and whomever else may be reading this interview. Nixon: First off always trust God and know that everything happens for a rea- son. Also constantly try to better yourself and look for something new. Pick up a book. And it ultimately pays to try to be the best person you can be, and to know that there's somebody watching you at all times. Whether you believe it or not. Whether you're in a position or in the spotlight somebody's watching you. And that moment when you let off the gas or ease up could be the moment that some- body is ready to give you the opportunity

that you are looking for. Try to see the positive in every situation and maintain your peace.

Nixon Reflects on the State of Affairs I n such unprecedented times it’s easy to be distracted by all the everything surrounding us, but I believe this is a great time to open our ears to God’s voice and truly embrace what he has planned for each and every one of us. I have remained steadfast in my faith and it is paying off. I successfully com- pleted this spring semester with a 4.0, the highest GPA in my college years. This past spring my track season ended abruptly while I was at Indoor NCAA’s

due to COVID-19. However, I was granted the opportunity to come back and will be competing next outdoor sea- son for Iowa State, while also pursuing my master’s degree.

To my fellow Class of 2020 graduates, I offer up a huge Congratulations. COVID-19 may have cancelled our ceremonies, but it did not cancel our degrees. One of the most powerful weapons on earth is a Black man with an education.

I take great pride in serving this great fraternity, and as a member of the Grand
