WELCOME SUMMER IN THE SUNSHINE STATE

SMART SUMMER HABITS IN FLORIDA

Stay Hydrated Drink water regularly, especially when outdoors or working in the sun. Encourage kids to drink fluids often, too. Use Sunscreen Every Day Apply SPF 30 or higher before going outside—and don’t forget to reapply every 2 hours. Avoid Peak Sun Hours Try to limit extended sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when UV rays are strongest. Know the Signs of Heat Illness Watch for dizziness, nausea, fatigue, or heavy sweating. Take breaks in the shade or indoors as needed. Keep an Eye on the Weather Florida's summer storms roll in fast. Stay informed with weather alerts and seek shelter when needed. Be Hurricane-Ready June through November is hurricane season. Have a family emergency plan and keep supplies ready. Drive Safely in the Rain Florida roads get slick quickly. Slow down, turn on headlights, and never drive through standing water. Protect Against Mosquitoes Use repellent and wear long sleeves near water or at dusk to avoid bites and potential illnesses. Enjoy Nature—Safely Remind kids to keep a safe distance from wildlife like alligators, snakes, and jellyfish when near water or trails.
