Lawrence has been passionate about dance since the age of 8, when he first began studying the art form. After graduating from Red Bank Regional Performing Arts Dance program in 1999, he stepped into the professional world of dance, touring the country to perform for companies such as Paramount Pictures and Disney Productions. He later returned to the Tri- State area to join the Bass River Dance Project, a professional modern dance company. In order to further his career, Lawrence returned to school to pursue a degree in dance, and was awarded an arts scholarship from Rutgers and Mason Gross School of the Arts. He graduated in 2005 with a BFA in dance, becoming the first male to do so in over a decade. Throughout his college career, Lawrence maintained a name for himself in the professional field, and was a choreographer and performer for MTV, Madison Square Gardens’ New York Knicks and New York Liberty basketball halftime shows, and the New York based modern dance company Randy James Dance Works. After graduating, he continued to tour and teach across the nation, becoming a master teacher at several major colleges, and a guest teacher at the National High School Dance Festival and American College Dance Festival. On top of that, he has performed as a backup dancer for artists such as Jessica Simpson, Blaque, Donna Summers and Crystal Waters. Lawrence has his New Jersey State certification to teach dance in New Jersey public schools, and currently works as the head dance advisor and dance team coach for Shore Regional High School and an adjunct Professor at Monmouth University. His decades-long career in dance has been truly remarkable. In recognition of his achievements, most recently Lawrence was awarded the Monmouth County Performing Arts educator of the year award for 2023.
