A BROTHER’S BACK PAIN Purcell designed the original AIRfeet to help his brother, whose work designing and building high-end landscaping had affected his lower back and hips. His initial efforts to market the insoles to marathon runners in 2011 were successful. He turned next to industrial employees who were on their feet all day and began supplying major automakers such as Ford, Toyota, and Honda with ergonomic insoles, replacing the rubber mats that are a leading cause of workplace injuries. The company also provides AIRfeet to 180 Army and Air Force installations worldwide.
Chiropractic patients who come for an adjustment to their back or neck often have issues with their feet. “They are looking for a solution, and they trust their chiropractor,” Purcell says. Diabetes Health magazine has written about AIRfeet’s impact on improving circulation and reducing pain in the feet of people with diabetes. Also, researchers at The Ohio State University found that AIRfeet significantly reduced shock to the tibia among people walking in work boots, according to a 2019 peer-reviewed study published in Ergonomics Journal. A COMPLEMENT, NOT A COMPETITOR “One thing we emphasize is that we are a complement to the great orthotics out there,” Purcell says. AIRfeet are designed to be worn over orthotics, he adds. “We work in tandem with them, with excellent results.” AIRfeet are now eligible for FSA and HSA funding. The product comes in two sizes that can be trimmed to fit any user. The company also provides single-insole samples and other helpful sales tools, including brochures and counter displays. The insoles can be branded or stamped at no extra cost with the name or logo of a chiropractor’s practice. “Every time a patient puts their shoes on, they will see the name of their doctor’s office,” Purcell says.
