Bio: Brett is a hometown, Baton Rouge, man through and through. He attended Catholic High School, then went on to Louisiana State University where he graduated with degrees in International Studies and French. After graduating from LSU, he began work as an Independent Professional Landman. He

He has also conducted presentations at the COPAS National Meetings, Colorado COPAS Meetings, Oklahoma COPAS meetings, Dallas/Ft. Worth COPAS meetings, the Martindale Consultants sponsored Oil and Gas State Reporting Conference, PASH conference, NAPAC, and PDI conferences. He developed various sampling techniques that are currently being administered and that have been challenged and upheld at the Supreme Court. In his current role of Regulatory Projects Supervisor, he will serve in the capacity of providing training, establishing valuation determination for various clients, professional consultation, litigation support, and assuming a leadership/supervisory role over special projects within the Regulatory Division at Martindale Consultants, Inc. He also has eight years previous work experience as an adjunct faculty instructor at a Wyoming community college where he taught various business, marketing, management and supervision courses. Derek graduated from Regis University with a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He is married to Cindy, and they have four children, D.J., Tanner, Lindsay, and Ryan.

After working in the oil & gas industry for several years he decided to go back to school. He attended law school at Southern University Law Center and was admitted to practice law in the State of Louisiana in 2016. After being admitted to the bar, he set out to gain experience in several different areas of law including holding the position of General Counsel & Director of Human Resources for a large company. For the last seven (7) years he has been litigating cases in the various fields of law, mostly focusing on family law issues involving community property partitions, child custody/support, spousal support, boundary and other property disputes, breach of contract, oil & gas, etc. He joined Fondren Blaize in March of 2021. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Michelle, and three boys, Lincoln (6), Lawson (4), and Landon (11 months). Brett bleeds purple and gold; he loves attending LSU and Louisiana sporting events including LSU Tiger football, baseball, basketball and other games. He is fluent in French and has even used this in his professional life translating old French documents. He is a member of Baton Rouge Bar Association and was Chairman of the Belly Up with the Bar event in 2019. In 2024, he was named managing partner of the Louisiana Family Law Firm. He has continued to serve his clients’ needs in real estate, divorce, community property, and child custody.
