Greenwood village. 5 Later, they built a house not far from the Logan family. 6 Ann, after her sister Eliza with whom she lived in Cokesbury died, moved in with them. She arrived while Frank was at war and remained after he returned home. Frank served in the Confederate army in Co. C, 6 South Carolina Cavalry. He enlisted at age 27 as a private and quickly rose to the rank of assistant surgeon in which capacity he served 1862-1864. 7 Annie had moved to Greenwood in her early twenties and moved permanently out of state in her early thirties. That she lived just about as long outside South Carolina as she did inside the state created confusion about where her children were born. Annie and Frank’s children, three daughters and a son, were born in South Carolina. The 1880 census is correct. 8 Tree, Anna Eliza “Annie” Turpin and Frank R. Calhoun, M.D. In 1869, Annie, Frank, their children and her mother moved to B ARTOW C OUNTY , G EORGIA . They first settled near Euharlee, where Frank practiced medicine and was an elder of the Presbyterian church. Frank had an M.D. degree from Medical College of South Carolina and had studied medicine one more year in Paris.
