History of Chartiers Chartiers Country Club was founded in 1924 as the Chartiers Heights Country Club with 400 initial members, most of whom were former members of the Thornburg Country Club. The clubhouse was constructed in the style of the English Tudor Manor House, and has been enlarged twice. The name was changed in 1946 to the present Chartiers Country Club. The first renovation added Tudor Hall and the Locker Room facilities and converted the lounge and main dining rooms into the Grande Ball Room and Chartiers Room. The newly renovated dining rooms and bar opened on December 20, 1954. In 1987, former Manager (turned long time member) John J. “Jack” Carr oversaw a substantial renovation project; the kitchen with new floors and equipment, elevators added, the Locker Rooms were renovated, and the side porch facing the parking lot was lengthened by about 20 feet. In 1997 this Porch dining area was enclosed to provide year-round dining to the members. In 1996 and 1997 the pool house and terrace, which were originally constructed in 1956, were completely renovated and now represent one of the finest swimming facilities of any club in the area. The Club’s Grande Ball Room and adjacent Chartiers Room can accommodate events of up to 300 people, and because of the beautiful vista from the Grande Ball Room and Veranda, these venues are used extensively for weddings and other parties throughout the year. The club’s 18 hole golf course, laid out on over 300 acres just off Baldwin Road in Robinson Township, was designed by Willie Park, twice British Open Champion, and one of the best known golf architects of the early 1900’s. The par 70 course measures 6,562 yards from the black tees, 6,232 from the Blue tees, 5,821 from the white tees, and 5,195 from the green tees. Slope ratings are 131, 129, 127, and 125 respectively. The course has been renovated many times over the years- most notably in 2018 & 2020 when Golf Course Architect Hills-Forest-Smith, reconstructed greens 2,4,6,12 & 13 along with a major bunker renovation. These projects have transformed our soon to be 100 year old golf course to the standards that accommodate modern day golf, while keeping the classic architecture in tack. Two prominent golf professionals guided the golfing activities at Chartiers for over 43 years – Bobby Cruickshank from 1949 to 1967, and Stan Wiel from 1968 to 1992. Cruickshank, who was only 5’3” tall, was a well known professional in his time, having been the biggest money winner on the PGA tour in 1937. Wiel was also known and highly regarded in the Western Pennsylvania golfing community. The Club’s current Head Golf Professional, Joe Klinchock, was previously the Head Golf Professional at Green Oaks Country Club (Pittsburgh) and Key Biscayne Country Club (Florida). Our Assistant Golf Professional Garett Powell joined us during the Fall of 2019 from Williams Country Club. Bob Davis, previously our golf course superintendent, now manages all operations in the capacity of COO/Director of Golf Course Operations. Herb Hyland is our Clubhouse Manager. He has been at Chartiers since 1999, and prior to that at Valley Brook Country Club. Debbie Curigliano is now our assistant Clubhouse Manager. She joined us in fall of 2018 after a successful run as owner of Picolina’s. With approximately 630 members, 210 of whom are Permanent Golf Members, Chartiers Country Club has one of the highest total memberships of any club in Western Pennsylvania. The membership is widely diverse with representation – both active and retired – from industry and the professions.

Membership Opportunities
Permanent Golf A Permanent member shall be a person at least twenty-one (21) years of age and the holder of a Certificate of Permanent Membership. This class of membership is limited to a total of no more than three hundred (300) individuals (inclusive of the Permanent senior members) and the Permanent members and the Permanent senior members are the only membership classifications with voting privileges. Each Permanent member shall have full use of all the facilities of the Club including the golf course, subject to such rules, policies and limitations as may be established by the Board from time to time.

Interim Golf An interim member shall be a person who is at least twenty-one (21) years of age and who has not previously held an interim membership. Total interim membership shall be subject to Board determination but shall not at any time exceed fifty (50) persons. The term of this membership is limited to twelve (12) calendar months. Each interim member shall have full use of all the facilities of the Club including the golf course, subject to such rules, policies and limitations as may be established by the Board from time to time. Interim members have no voting rights and hold no Certificate of Permanent Membership.

Corporate A corporate member shall be a business entity or principal of a sole proprietorship with no rights other than to designate certain individuals within its organization to receive certain privileges as described below. A corporate member shall be entitled, from time to time, to submit for the Board of Director’s approval the names of from one to four designees of the corporate member’s firm to have use of all the facilities of the club, including the golf course. Such designees of the corporate member are charged dues, fees and assessments at the same rate level as permanent members but shall have no voting rights nor hold a Certificate of Permanent Membership. The corporate member may change designees from time to time by submitting the name of the designee to be resigned from membership and submitting the name of a new potential designee for Board approval along with payment of a change-of-designee fee, as determined by the Board from time to time. Each firm holding a corporate membership is responsible for all charges incurred by their corporate designees. The Board of Directors, in its discretion, may authorize up to six (6) Corporate Memberships for firms approved by the Board of Directors. Total aggregate number of designees of all corporate members shall not exceed twenty-four (24) designees.

Intermediate Golf Membership This class of membership is limited to an aggregate total of no more than one hundred twenty-five (125) individuals. Each intermediate member shall have full use of all the facilities of the Club including the golf course, subject to such rules, policies and limitations as may be established by the Board from time to time. Intermediate members have no voting rights and hold no Certificate of Permanent Membership. Intermediate Golf I An intermediate I member shall be a person who is at least twenty-one (21) years of age but less than thirty-one (31) years of age.

Intermediate Golf II An intermediate I member shall be a person who is at least thirty-one (31) years of age but less than forty (40) years of age.

Social Membership A social member shall be a person who is at least twenty-one (21) years of age. Social members shall have full use of the facilities of the Club, subject to such rules, policies and limitations as may be established by the Board from time to time, except that the social members’ golf privileges will be limited as set forth in the golf course rules and regulations established by the Board of Directors.

House Membership A house member shall be a person who is at least twenty-one (21) years of age. House members will be entitled to use all dining facilities and attend club-sponsored social functions. A house membership allows use of the Club’s golf course and swimming facilities only as an accompanied guest of a non-house member with rights to use the golf course and/or swimming facilities (as applicable) and upon payment of the appropriate guest-of-member fee by the authorized member. Use of the golf facilities and swimming facilities by each house member is limited to a combined maximum of six (6) times per year.

APPLICATION PROCESS
Step 1:
Complete the application located on pages (14-17) below & return it via scan or mail to Domenic If you are scanning the application and sending via email please send it to DomenicL@chartierscc.com Please be sure to include the following along with the application Signatures from two members in good standing. One of those members must be a Permanent Golf Member. Please send a family photo to Domenic's above email as well.
Step 2:
An application must be submitted to Domenic by the first week of the month for the membership to become effective for the following month. The application will then be reviewed by the Membership Director.
Step 3:
After review of the application from the Membership Director, an informal interview will be scheduled by the Membership Director. This interview will be conducted at a mutually convenient time for the prospective member & member of the Membership Committee.
Step 4:
Following the completion of the interview the application will be presented to the Board of Directors at their monthly meeting. Their monthly meeting is completed on the third Tuesday of the month. Regardless of the result an email will be sent to you the following day, announcing the acceptance or denial of your membership application. Following that email an official letter will be mailed to you. If accepted, letter will include the following things; Membership Number Instructions to register for our member's only portal Instructions to register for our communication platform ForeTees Also each new member will receive a 2022 reference manual that includes numerous details and information about all aspects of Chartiers
