Deacon Arturo “Art” F. Rodriguez, 78, of Brownsville, passed away Oct. 8, 2024. He was born on June 27, 1946 in Browns- ville to Jose Rodriguez and Francisca Flores. He graduated from Brownsville High School in 1966. He was drafted in May 1966 and served in the Vietnam War as a sergeant in the U.S. Army before his honorable discharge in Oc- tober 1972. While in the service, he received the Army Commendation Medal and sever- al other decorations. After his military service, he began pre- paring for the diaconate. He was ordained a deacon May 5, 1985, and then served at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral for 30 years. received numerous awards and recognitions for his service to the community. Deacon Rodriguez enjoyed singing and playing his guitar, reading, charcoal draw- ing, oil painting and fishing. He is remem- bered for always being ready to respond with his quick wit; even when he was feeling his worst, he would not lose his sense of humor. But mostly, he is remembered as a compas- sionate, kindhearted, and humble man with a deep devotion to Christ and a deep love for our blessed Mother Mary. Deacon Rodriguez was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Rodriguez and Francisca Flores Rodriguez; stepmother Maria Luisa Rodriguez; grandchildren Al- ison, Madelyn Nichole, Eden, Charlie, and Michael Rodriguez; and his siblings, Juanito Rodriguez, Desiderio Rodriguez, Rosa Bet- taglia, and Mary Garcia. He is survived by his loving and devot-
ed wife, Sara I. Rodriguez; his daughter, Ana Lorelly Gonza- lez (Felix), and his son, Edoar- do Rodriguez (Erika); his granddaughter, Emma Isabella

Funeral Mass for Deacon Rodriguez was Oct. 11, 2024 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, followed by interment with mili- tary honors at Rio Grande Valley State Vet- erans Cemetery in Mission.
