Introducing TPT’s Viewers Like Us Clubs TPT and Community Partners Host Screenings and Dialogues for Older Adults

The Viewers Like Us Clubs are centered around four key goals:

Expand Educational Programming Reach with Inclusivity Learning does not end after finishing formal education, and this initiative expands our programming beyond our traditional pre-K through 12th grade audience. Designed with older adults (55+) and their families in mind, we are dedicated to extending our educational programming to engage adult learners across diverse ages and stages within informal learning settings. In addition, we see great value in viewers from different generations co-viewing programs and reflecting together. Strengthen Community Partnerships: Strong partnerships make our work with the community possible. The Viewers Like Us Clubs initiative provides the opportunity to partner with organizations that are aligned with our mission and that work with our viewers. This includes senior centers, libraries, adult learner and continuing education centers, and gatherings for community members. Diversify Content Offerings The Viewers Like Us Clubs will feature critically acclaimed programs from TPT and PBS. Our media collection will highlight and celebrate the deep diversity of backgrounds and experiences that make up Minnesota with stories focused on our state’s history, arts, and culture. In addition, the conversation and feedback provided at screenings will inform how future programs and resources are created.

Whether huddled around a television screen with family or gathered in a classroom to stream a documentary, we know that media has the power to bring community together around topics that matter. This is at the core of our mission at Twin Cities PBS, so TPT’s Center for Lifelong Learning is excited to announce our new initiative, Viewers Like Us Clubs. Viewers Like Us Clubs invite community members to come together in groups to watch local and national PBS programs, and to connect with each other over thoughtful conversation around the themes presented in the shows. Think of it like a book club: It’s an opportunity to dive into a story with friends and family and reflect on it together, without the commitment of finishing a 400-page novel.
