SUCCESS IN LIFE This past summer a most faithful saint of God, who spent nearly two decades serving on the faculty of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, went into the presence of our Lord Jesús Christ .Her name, Bertha H. Pentney. She taught many of our students who are now in strategic places of service around the world. Her classes always include a challenge for Bible memorization and there was a, constant underscoring of the fact that the greatest text book in all the world is the Word of God. She created within the hearts of her students a desire to know more of the Bible. While here with us Miss Pentney wrote many beautiful poems which were published under the ap propriate^ title of “Songs of a Servant." It goes along so well with what has been written below. Compare your life with this evaluation and see if you have found success.
But computed In terms of spirit and soul By a sure, but an unseen, pen. Oh, the plaudits of men may be sweet to your ears But the Master's "well done" is more; And the faithful servant's content to walk Where the Master has gone before. You will surely find, at the journey's end, Whatever the world may afford, That "things" fade away, and success is seen In the life that has served the Lord.
When you come to the end of your span of years, It will not matter then How much you hold in treasure store, Nor how much of the world you gain. Yes, the wealth of the world and the power it brings, Possessions and comfort and ease, Are tempting to all, but your heart well knows Satisfaction comes not from these. True values in life are not measured at all By gold in the marts of men, significant events of this life, how much more should we pray concerning the decisions and daily course of our lives. If Jesus Christ prayed much be fore times of peculiar service for God, how much more should we pray before endeavoring to minister for Him. These are crisis days of momentous importance in history; days that de mand much of every Christian. These are not days for discouragement or de feat, but every new demand is an other opportunity to “let our light so shine before men that they might see our good works and glorify the Fath
er which is in Heaven.” Without these personal, solitary hours of refreshment and spiritual replenishment with our Lord we cannot be equipped to face the pressures and responsibilities of life. May I conclude this message with a personal question to you, my Christian friend. How does your prayer life meas ure up to the standard laid down in God’s word? Has your life been one of fainting and weakness? Then God says that the answer is to pray, rather than to faint. I trust that the Holy Spirit might apply these truths to our hearts today. 11
