ILLUSIVE SATISFACTION! W a l t e r Winchell, columnist — tells of a conversation between one of Amer ica’s well known motion picture stars and a Hollywood restaurant owner, who, upon seeing the star at a table went over and compli mented her by saying, “You’re more beautiful than you were ten years ago. / want to give you a birthday party — invite all of your friends and have a happy time. We’ll cele brate your return to health.” The star responded soberly, “You are very kind; I appreciate the thought, but I really have no friends. With all the people who surround me, I am still alone.” The Christian need never have this fear for Christ says in His Word,“Fear not for I will never leavethee nor forsakethee.” * * It "God holds us responsible not only for what we have, but for what we could have; not only for what we are, but for what we might be." * * * THESE ARE DAYS OF GREAT TURMOIL and stress. A recent President stated that during days of International conflict, he was able to b e a r up calmly by going to what he called a “foxhole in his mind.” He explained that, just as a soldier re treats into his foxhole for protec tion and respite, he, as the Chief Executive, resorted to a mental fox hole; there he allowed nothing to bother him.

But you know, the Christian has a much better secret place than merely his own mind for retreat and protection. The Word of God says, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord (Jehovah Jesus), is my refuge and my fortress, my God in Him w ill I trust.” * * * "Men have to seek and find the truth, not because it is lost but be cause they are." * * * THE BLESSINGS OF THE LORD. How adequately can we explain just how wonderful they are? A lad was carrying a pail of honey and often his finger would dip down and then he would put his finger in his mouth. A man seeing this asked, “Is it good, son?” With a broad grin the boy said, “It is sweet” — “But how sweet?” asked the man. “Oh, it is very sweet” said the boy. “But how sweet is that?’ The boy replied to the man, “Here, mister, you taste and see for yourself.” When you think of the goodness of our Lord in all that He has done for us, of the peace that He has given us and the satisfaction of knowing that our sins are forgiven; then it is that you join with the Psalmist to sing out of your heart and soul the joy of tasting and seeing that the Lord is good and that blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.
