Bassett, of 6519 Rugby Ave., Huntington Park, Calif., who served for many« years at the information desk at the Bible Institute of Los An­ geles, went to be “with Christ” on October 15 after a brief illness in a Huntington Park hospital. He had been a member of the Church of the Open Door since 1920 and for many years had served as treasurer of the church. George W. Hunter, 312 Ximeno Ave., Long Beach, Calif., who was at one time, for six years, Extension Secre­ tary fpr the feible Institute of Los Angeles, went to be with, the Lord on June 26. For ten years prior to his derth he vws affiliated with the Amer­ ican European Fellowship as B ield Sec­ retary.

William G. (’27) and Mrs. Graves, (Madge Henderson, ’23), 1701 Cedar St., Berkeley, Calif., continued their summer conference ministry this past year in the planning of two Bible con­ ferences for young people and adults, held simultaneously under Mr. Graves’ direction at Mission Springs, Santa Cruz Mountains, Calif., from July 20 to, 27. Robert A. Graves, ’27, was scheduled as one of the conference speakers. A series of three Bible camps was held under the direction of Dawson E. Trotman, primarily for members of the Dunamis and Martures Bible clubs. For­ mer and present Biola students who as­ sisted with the Boys’ Bible Camp at Camp Bethel, San Dimas Canyon, July 8 to 13, included Ralph J. Colburn, B. Th. ’40; Neil Nellis;, Heber Richins, and Lester Yocum. At the camp held for girls during the following week at the same location, the staff included Arshaloos Bedrosian, ’40; Myrtle Bur­ ton, '26; Marjorie Douglass; Esther J. Elliott, *39;. Ruth Fuqua, ’32; Vivian Fusby, B. Chr. Ed. ’40; Gene Gilbert; Jane S. Goodner, ’40;, Gloria Johnson; Adelaide Locher; Georgia McDavid; Victoria A. McIntosh, ’39; Marjory L. Thomson, ’39. A third camp was held from August 12 to 19 at Portuguese Meadows in Kern-County for boys of high school and junior college age. At this camp the leaders included Herbert

Special Summertime Activity The summer months have found many Institute students and graduates serv­ ing as leaders in camps of their denomi­ national groups, in Daily Vacation Bible Schools under the American Sunday School Union or other auspices, in gos­ pel team tours, or in other special Chris­ tian activity. The facts given below are necessarily very/incomplete, for not many members of the Biola family have written of their activities. Lyman Wendt, '34, pastor of Calvary Church, Santa Ana, Calif., was one of the speakers at the young people’s con­ ference held by the American Sunday School Union in June at Carlsbad, Calif. Carlton (’30) and Mrs. Buck (Frieda Claassen, ’30) were oh the staff of the Leadership Conference of the California Christian Endeavor Union at Mount „Hermon, Calif., August 9' to 16. Mr. Buck was superintendent of the con­ ference, and Mrs. Buck served on the faculty and as girls’ hostess.
