the world outside. Air needs to be changed, but in 90 per cent of buildings the only way to do that is by opening a window. Any air exchange of this nature causes a loss of energy, for instance allowing the cold to enter in winter. So, the dilemma is how we can change the air without harming our energy efficiency and avoiding waste. This is what Fybra does.” How is Fybra using disruptive technology? “We use the power of data to anticipate what will happen in a real environment. By measuring parameters such as CO2, volatile organic compounds, temperature and humidity and comparing them continuously with outdoor parameters, we can predict what will happen when you ventilate. Our algorithms learn from the environment and people’s habits to minimise energy waste related to ventilation, even among the 90 per cent of buildings that only have windows as a means of ventilation. In this way, we make every window a dynamic and intelligent tool.” Can you outline how Fybra is committed to having a positive impact on society? “We define ourselves as being a force for good because every device we release is aimed at delivering a higher wellbeing to users by reducing the transmission of illness and disease, while avoiding waste in energy consumption. In addition, the company began by working primarily with schools, an environment where you can generate and increase your impact rapidly. Children are our future and the perfect way to convey a positive message to society. “We offer educational paths and direct lessons to schools that use Fybra, creating a movement for indoor air quality and energy efficiency. The children at these schools then go home and talk to their families and friends, allowing the movement’s reach to extend to homes and offices in the neighbourhood. Helping to change the habits and behaviours of people in this way is very satisfying when you see it for yourself.” What methods are you using to measure the impact of Fybra? “We are currently involved in different Polimi programmes to select the best KPIs and assess Fybra’s broader impact, both in Italy and abroad. It’s been an interesting process because we were missing some important aspects. One example is that these programmes have helped us track our impact on people who did not use our products directly but were in some way affected by them, such as those who occasionally work in a space that has Fybra.” Can you tell us about your ESG programme and how this relates to the work of Fybra? “This idea came from one of the most recent strategic reviews of our international team and is based on a desire to reshape our identity. We already knew that Fybra makes a well recognised,
