Hay Preservative

Hay Preservative

How it works

®

HAY GUARD ® ’s dual action protects and retains the quality of your hay. • Low oxygen and no mould growth produce a more stable bale and

Made from a combination of sulphur compounds, HAY GUARD enables you to start baling within a few days instead of waiting 4-6 weeks. Unlike propionic acid products, HAY GUARD has no odor. Once applied to the cut hay, HAY GUARD turns into gas and searches for oxygen then it ‘eats’ up the oxygen in the bale, prohibiting microbial growth so the bales will stay cooler, and you’ll see less browning. • HAY GUARD ® is a preservative not an inoculant • The sulphur salts form mild s-gases that are non-conducive to mould growth • Non-toxic • No withholding period • Safe, based on additives used in human food preservation • Get hay baled before rain event • More baling hours in a day • Ready to use formula • Baling up to 25% moisture

much less heating even when moisture is higher. • HAY GUARD ® helps limit plant cell respiration.

Scavenges oxygen from within the bale controlling oxidation that causes heating

Forms conditions in the bale that are non-conducive to mould growth or overheating

• Start hay making earlier in the season • Better quality hay and more regrowth • Reduce heat, yeast and mould • Increase dry matter recovery • Retain more high-quality nutrients • Easier feeding out

DID YOU KNOW

Mould and Fungus are naturally present in hay. As soon as forage is cut, the dynamic of microbe colonies change from defensive bacteria (helping the plant grow) to degenerative organisms, that feed off the energy plants cells emit as they start to decompose. Extended drying times in windrows are perfect conditions for bacteria and fungus colonies to establish themselves before baling, and if baled at a higher moisture without HAY GUARD ® , colonies continue to feed off the water soluble carbohydrates and heating can occur.

NOTE: • Apply 800ml when baling hay using an applicator on the baler. • Moisture content should be 25% or less for cured hay, 18% or less for sap/stem moisture. • The recommended way to measure the moisture is Gazeeka 870 or before baling use the microwave oven technique. • Refer to application rate on drum label for more details. • Application rates depend on a case by case scenario. Speak with your local Tama Territory Manager for suitable application rates for your crop and conditions.
