Marmelo
HW6214 Auburn Plank
Marmelo, a newly opened Portuguese-inspired restaurant in Melbourne, offers a dining experience that blends traditional elements with contemporary design. Designed by Mitchell & Eades and constructed by Chroma Group, Marmelo celebrates the raw, textural essence of local materials, finding charm and character in their natural imperfections. A key feature of Marmelo's interior is the use of Havwoods' Auburn Plank from the V Collection. This flooring choice complements the restaurant's warm and earthy palette, enhancing the tactile and authentic atmosphere envisioned by the designers. The Auburn Plank's rich tones and natural textures align seamlessly with other design elements, such as traditional hand-painted azulejos tiles and original artworks by Lucy Roleff and Ben Mazey.
Drawing inspiration from Portuguese design traditions, Mitchell & Eades selected materials such as clay and cobblestones for their organic texture and unrefined charm, creating a grounded, authentic environment that connects guests to place. At the heart of the space is an open kitchen anchored by a custom charcoal grill and wood-fired oven, inviting diners into the theatre of cooking and deepening the sense of immersion. The result is a dining space that honours Portuguese tradition while embracing Melbourne’s design-forward energy, brought to life through materiality, craftsmanship, and the unifying warmth of Havwoods’ Auburn Plank flooring.
