Orlo Restaurant RECM2124 Reclaimed Oak Rill
With a goal to elevate Orlo and create a relaxed yet sophisticated ambiance, owner James Klapanis collaborated with McCluskey Studio to transform the 1880s red brick structure while preserving the charm of the heritage building. Familiarity and approachability, balanced with historic and contemporary elements, were the key factors considered by the design team throughout the process. The design aimed to create connections between the building’s four spaces and integrate James’ overall vision for the venue, which includes his collection of reclaimed and vintage furniture. Central to establishing a lived-in, authentic ambiance was the choice of flooring. The Reclaimed Oak Rill flooring from Havwood’s Relik range, with its rich colour variations and
textured finish, plays a pivotal role in delivering an immediate sense of warmth and nostalgia. This flooring not only complements the wall panelling but also enhances the overall heritage feel, making the space inviting and cohesive. Other elements that contributed to achieving the vision of an original space included the rugged brick walls beautifully contrasted with finer finishes such as marble, brass, and amber glass. A decorative accent tile harmonises with the main bar's deep burgundy stone, while a copper feature pendant comes to life against the bronze kitchen pass, casting an inviting glow over the timber-clad dining space. With a mix of varied colours and textured finishes, the duo successfully created a timeless, nostalgic ambiance while adding warmth to the space.
