A Valuable Worker Retires

A f t e r s e r v in g the Lord for over twenty-seven years in the Field and Stewardship Department of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, Mr. Eugene Poole retired from active duty January first of this year. Dur ing this period of time he has called on friends and donors of Biola all over the state of California and has represented the school in Oregon, Washington, Arizona and Texas as well. Although he was Director of the department for over five years, he felt that he could be of more serv ice out in the field so he returned to that area. Rev. George Richardson followed as Director of the depart ment and after his death Rev. Ray C. Weiskopf took over the leadership. God is blessing this important part of the work o f the school in a signal manner. In his native Texas Mr. Poole was active in newspaper and radio work, having been associated with the Texas Centennial in Public Relations. In 1937 Mr. and Mrs. Poole were led to come to California with their sons, Eugene Jr. and William, after at tending a Bible conference in the Scofield Memorial Church of Dallas, Texas, where Dr. Louis T. Talbot, then pastor of the Church of the Open Door, was the speaker. The Pooles were members of the Church of. the Open Door for twenty years, twelve of which Mr. Poole served on the official board of Elders. He now is aU Elder of Calvary Church of Pacific Palisades of which Rev. Ralph Hetrick is pastor. On January first Mr. John Isaac of Manhattan Beach, Calif, a mem ber of North Redondo Chapel, took over Mr. Poole’s former duties with Biola. Discussing this matter with the Editor of the King’s Business recently, Mr. Poole said: “We do thank the Lord for giving us so many faithful friends through the years who have shared in the blessings of the ministry of Biola. We know they will take Mr. Isaac into their homes and hearts as they have received me. I have never ceased to be amazed that the Lord could use a plain news-
paper man in this wonderful Bible- centered school, a choice vineyard. I am deeply grateful for the privi lege I have had of working with a dedicated board and men and women of every department of our beloved Biola. My heart has been inspired and encouraged so many times by the lives our Chancellor, Dr. Talbot, our president, Dr. Sutherland, our Board Chairman, Dr. Myers, Director of the Jewish Department, Dr. Rose and Di rector of Public Relations, Mr. Sand ers, and many others. “ It is not easy to leave Biola after so many years of active service but we shall be near all of you. Mr. Eugene Poole we shall remember all of you daily before the throne of grace. It will not be very long until the Lord will come for His children and we shall all be together forever with Him and each other.” We only add that when that won derful day arrives, we are sure that Mr. Poole will hear those thrilling words: “Well done, good and faith ful servant; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”
